LPG or good ol petrol

got a cheque winging its way towards me now, MOTing the Renult next week then put up for sale.
soooo... while i still cant (just yet) dedicate to looking for a 1.3 aim for a MPV (maybe).. i am however getting the info in.

I do 50 miles a day round trip x 5/6 days a week= 250-300miles
i currently spend £45-50 a week on fuel.

will i really get any benefit of buying a LPG van?
if i dont get a LPG, will i be spending the same/more/less on fuel a week in a regular petrol van?
i know most of this swings on how lead footed i am.. most days i do stick to 70mph as 75% of my travel is duel carriageway. in my old 998cc hijet i only used to drive it at 60-65mph but i dont quite fancy that as means i dont get a cuppa in time before i start work.

If you were driving my van i'd recon it would cost £35-40 a week on LPG and about £60 on petrol.

I do the same mileage, i'm about £45-50 quid a week, i generally stick to 55ish (be doing the same all day, you get used to it) My commute is 90% motorway, so i'd reckon on a saving on lpg, but is the risk of it f**king up worth it? My 'Jet saves me money as using the Merc would be double that, you won't be seeing much gain monetery wise, but you'd have a Hijet!


I usually find leaving 5 mins earlier would get you a cuppa........

lpg has gone up so much in my area that it works out about the same now, the main benifit for me was long journeys (wales and cornwall) i coud get there using both tanks and not have to stop to fill up, i now have a leak in the gas tank so cant use it

I dont have lpg. I'm getting 42mpg out of mine , cost 37.50 to fill and I get 225 miles out of it.
LPG seems like a good idea but like logi say its just another thing to go a bollock.

My tank range is similar, re Daisys point, tbh more than 200 miles in a Hijet without a break? No thanks, my arse couldnt take it.

Filling my lpg tank up costs around £22 and I get 160 to 170 miles out of that running around a hilly IoW. Filling the petrol tank costs around £45 as fuel here is second mortgage prices.
I personally find running on lpg is cheaper (around 26mpg) and much more so on a run on the mainland and around 35mpg on petrol.
So using lpg is cheaper for me but as others have pointed out there can be hassle factors the most common of which is the green lights on lpg level indicator not working or working properly. Small problem to put up with.

As long as the coolant system is fine and it has no obvious defects I'd have that!

That ones gone, got my eye on one that's petrol but needs work. As soon as it stop ferkin snowing...... I'll be off to get it.. If it hasn't gone!
