Any Ideas??????????????? Empty Any Ideas???????????????

Today our van decided to play up and conked out I got it running again but seems to be on 2 cylinders got the few miles to work and now it won't start I have had plugs out and it is fuelling and it is sparking I haven't checked timing but it is next on the list when I get it home to work on properly.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

With any petrol my first things to check are
Fuel - too much or too little
Spark - right time and strong enough
Air - any blockages in intake
Compression - are all 4 pots the same.

I've had simaler on a landy before where the ht leads have started to breakdown and leaked some of the spark to the block. The plug was still showing a spark but weak.
If its only running on two then can be headgasket gone between to pots, pressure leaks away to next pot and viceversa.
Also had a dizzy slip slightly so engine was only just catching on a pot every other compression stroke.

Few things to start looking at, hope you get to the bottom of the problem soon!

I have got the van home tonight so tomorrow morning I can have a look yes I have fuel, yes I have spark don't know timing yet, yes there is compression but as it was at work not checked pressure yet and the fourth cylinder will definatly not have any pressure as it is only little and hasn't grown it's wisdom cylinder yet Very Happy

Well there's your problem, some nasty person gave you a van with only 3 pots in! Razz

Hopefully it will be something nice and simple like dizzy is slightly off or HT breakdown. This is why I like diesels long as theres fuel and compression they will go, oh and so much easier to work on Evil or Very Mad Shocked

When I got the compression tester on it cylinders 2 & 3 had no compression with the plugs out, at work I could only get my finger on number 1 which did still have compression.

It's only an inconvenience now this is the eighth time I have had the head off I know the torque for the head bolts, the sequence and I can do a strip, clean and refit in four hours if I have a gasket ready I need to order one this time as it usually blows to the coolant this is the first time between bores and I had to pull it down to check it wasn't anything more serious.
