Duff Light? Empty Duff Light?

Post by Logi Fri Sep 16, 2011 8:21 pm

I've got a headlamp out on main beam, changed the bulb to no avail, when i flip it onto high beam the low beam goes out and there's a wee buzz from the headlamp adjuster motor? I'm reckoning bad earth or a short somewhere? Any ideas?

sounds like it to me with a multi meter you can find the common earth on the bulb I think it's one side possibly the left as looking forward in the van once you know which terminal it is then you can jam a male spade connector with a 90 degree bend into the block connector when pluged over the bulb and earth the other end if it fixes it then you know to check the earth along the line I did this as a bodge last winter when I was to and from work in the dark till I could fix it at the weekend when we got 2 hours of daylight and it wasn't raining Exclamation

If the dipped lights still work I guess the ground is ok.

Do they have a pair of main beam relays? Maybe thats knackard, and thats what you can hear buzzing maybe?

I'll go and have a look at how my lights work... is it the passenger side or drivers side?

HJ you can get a a funny light if the earth goes as the low beam can track back to earth through the high beam and you dont get a full beam on both and then it goes to pot when switched over on our van the left hand headlamp sometimes if you flick high beam on and then off stays on with both filiments and a quick tap on the light and it goes back to normal I'll fix it when it stps working perminently.
