Fuel light Empty Fuel light

Post by FrontBackSide2Side Wed Mar 26, 2014 6:25 am

Just a quick question, my fuel light seems to come on all the time when cornering quite hard, even if i have say 1/2 to 3/4 of a tank of fuel. Is that normal? When i bought the truck the light didn't work at all so i replaced the sender plus i also had to replace the tank as it was leaking.

Most people on here have vans.

Pickups have an even shallower tank than a van making their fuel gauge and light even more bonkers.

Corners, hills, acceleration, braking, cruising on the motorway - they all make the fuel gauge tell big lies.

Get to about half a tank, then the fuel light pops up every now and again.

What I do, is I just don't worry about it Smile

I drive until the gauge has been on its arse for a fair bit, then I put another full tank in it. So far in this Hijet I have not run out of petrol, and I can normally fit about 25 litres in it.

Thanks for the reply Smile

My gauge tends to stay pretty still but just the light flashes, but if thats the normal i wont't worry about it. I was just wondering if there wasn't something quite right but you've put my mind at rest.

when i get to about 1/4 tank the light comes on under brakeing and at roundabouts, when gauge is at emptie the light doesnt stay on untill ive done about 20 miles, when i changed the tank the other week light was comeing on frequent and gauge almost at emptie so i geussed there was about 1/2 gallon in tank, when i drained it there was well over a gallon probely a tenners worth

Yes, apparently it is common for it not to work, usually caused by corroded wiring at the fuel sender. But of course it may just be a blown bulb too.

Neither of mine have. Think fuel lights only on 1.3's.

To be honest, you're not missing out, it's a nuisance. Thinking about disconnecting mine Laughing
