1.3 - COIL SPRINGS
Dear Hijetters! - I am starting the new year with a month of Hijet repairs. First up is both of my front shock coil springs. Very rusty and got flagged up on last years M.O.T. Anyone bought some new ones recently and could recommend a parts specialist or distributor? It's for a 1.3 Hijet - 2001
Many thanks in advance,
Steve

I didn't buy these but they should be compatible according to the website
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/suplex/8158152
There are others available on the site, but that is the cheapest.

Thanks! I got in touch with Suplex directly in Leeds and the friendly chap there got in touch with Germany to reveal they have been discontinued. The search continues..

Re: 1.3 - COIL SPRINGS
I got a set from D'amico on-line, Italy. They were reasonable and fortunately, on offer at the time. I suggest you Google D'Amico and Mondo Porter, also in Italy. Their catalogues have a good range of HiJet/Porter stuff and they both have offer periods. Carriage to UK is around 25Euro per box so it pays to get other stuff too.

Ciclocar Matera are also decent too.

Why is a rusty spring a MOT problem
Thought broken or collapsed coils were fail, rust?

Re: 1.3 - COIL SPRINGS
It's a fair observation but I think it's a matter of degree - at least that's what my MoT tester told me. But I suspect very rusty coil springs would be an advisory rather than a fail. In the past I've tapped and brushed the coils to remove the heavy surface crud and then liberally sprayed them with Waxoyl - similarly with the rear leafs (careful of the brakey bits).

Coil Spring Success!
Contacted Amy at Piaggio Commercial in Hull. She's great and managed to source me 2 springs, via italy. about £75 a spring.
I did contact a chap at an old daihatsu dealership in dorest. He was able to locate me a single spring from daihatsu for 149.99, not including VAT. Great chap though and told me all about the Piaggio/daihatsu fallout.
Started work on the van this week... Post to follow

That's good news, though a bit pricey!

Something about the Daihatsu parts being marked up more expensive than the piaggio parts? And also how all the parts serial numbers were updated?
