Conical air filter Empty Conical air filter

Post by bushwhacker Sat Jul 02, 2011 12:45 pm

Has anyone experience of fitting a conical air filter to a 993cc efi?

I have just bought an Argos special and was wondering where to attach the supplied bracket. I did look at Dee's picture of one in 'Dinky Doo' but that is a 1.3 and seems to have the air filter in a different place.

Any suggestions or pictures would be helpful. (By the way, it has no instructions at all so I have to make it up as I go along).

I fitted a conical air filter to my 993cc EFI.

I didnt bother with a bracket (I hadnt got one :p)

basically, I removed the standard airbox, and using the airbox to manifold pipe with a short metal pipe to connect the my cone filter to the rubber hose (its completely covered by the rubber pipes though).

the cone filter itself just sat nicely under the seat, where the airbox was.

mine didnt move around much if at all (and the rubber pipe has a bit of flexibility anyway).

I'll try and get a pic today or tomorrow for you.

the biggest downside (to some), is the induction noise though.
its quite loud :p

but the engine does seem to perform a little better (and mine ran cooler!)

Thank you.

The noise may not be a problem as I'd previously fitted a Blue Print metal cased air filter which made quite a lot of induction noise but didn't seem to make much difference to the performance. However, that has been on for nearly two years and is due to be changed soon. (It seemed a good idea to go for something which might increase performance and would last longer).

Sorry for taking a bit longer to get pictures....

air filter with pipe linking it too EFI intake:

space where cone filter sits (where the standard airbox used to be):

it actually makes the engine run better, and believe it or not, the air filter doesnt get splattered at all...
it can draw air in more easily as well, as the standard airbox draws air through the chassis!

hope they help a bit Smile
