Air Filter
Hello people...
I cant seem to get air filters for the hijet locally, and besides, the airbox is about knackered.
I have fitted a conical airfilter to the van...
It sits under the drivers seat where the airbox used to...
Been round the block, and wow, what a difference it has made.
The only think I wanted to ask, is what is the small tube that runs to the airbox?
It runs from the airbox to a small unit at the front under the seat, with 3 other hoses off it, and a couple of wires...
What is the unit?
Thanks,

Re: Air Filter
I believe that that is the air speed/flow meter or air pressure meter it sits on the atmospheric side of the filter so as long as you cable tie the pipe up nearby then it should be okay
Re: Air Filter
Fair enough.
Currently its just wrapped around itself....
I was shocked at the extra power the engine seems to have developed mind you

I was pleasantly surprised at the extra power I unleashed when I fitted a motorbike silencer to our van,
after the original one rotted & fell off.

Re: Air Filter
It seems the hijet is quite restricted really....
the tiny airfilter pipes, the completely un-gasflowed airbox, and the stock silencer...
The airfilter I fitted made the performance increase dramatically
Will break traction in 1st on a dry road, with 400kg in the back

Which type of aftermarket filter did you fit??/ K&N style?? Did you have to use reducers to fit it to the intake??

Yes, a cheap K&N copy (cost £20 with all the adaptors I think)
basically, I just used one of the small reducers supplied with it, and it all fitted nicely.
It does increase the induction roar quite a lot though....

Re: Air Filter
as far as I know, its a very common motorbike sports/race can.
you can pick them up on ebay at times for £10~£30 without the 'link pipe'
being stainless steel, they dont really rust either

I used a Kawasaki GPX250 silencer, only because that's what I found in my garage & the link pipe diameter was about the same.
Unfortunately it wasn't stainless steel, so it rusted & fell apart.

Something like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RC-1060-K-N-Universal-Chrome-Filter-GENUINE-K-N-PART-/390325657321?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ae138dee9#ht_2298wt_1002
or even this

Be okay? Improvement in acceleration would be great

Re: Air Filter
They will work fine.
It wont turn the Hijet into a sports car beater, but it will improve its responsiveness a little.
the standard air intake system is quite restrictive.
