1l to 1300l engine change Empty 1l to 1300l engine change

Despite recent attempts to repair a hole in my rad, it fatefully through all its water out down the motorway and over heated, now the engine has heat seized, now the dilema is whether to repair it (depending on the damage) or just buy a new engine?? which ever would be cheaper!! and easier...

I've always wanted to put a bigger cc engine in, so if i'm gonna replace the engine might as well get a bigger one, does anyone know if the 993 chassis would take a 1.3 engine, (I would assume they are the same), engine mounts pos different but it cant be too much different can it?? I believe the gearbox is the same though.

I suspect it may be more trouble than it is worth.

I understand that the Piaggio Porter (same as the 1300 Hijet) is 3 inches longer which is probably what would be expected for installing an engine with an extra cylinder. However, this would most likely mean that the engine hump on which the seats sit would have to be extended backwards by that amount. It would seem that they extended the engine bay then the load bay in order to keep the same load bay length.

Lots of cutting and welding?

I have seen a 2.3 essex V6 in a bedford rascal which being a carb engine means hook the power to the coil and you could run the motor on the bench and being only 3 cyclinders long it'll go in the same space also a common engine so should be easy to find if not then there is always the 2.8 cologne or the later mondeo 2lt v6.

After some fault diagnosis, found out the engine isn't seized after all, it wouldn't turn over because the cylinders were full of water, obviously the head gasket has gone, gonna strip the head over next few weeks and fingers crossed there has been no further damage, head warped or cracked....

With the 1.3 engine being longer, as there is the access compartment at the rear of the bulk head I would think that this would allow for the extra length in the engine, but couldn't the engine mounts be modified to bring the engine forward as there seems to be room forward of the engine too. But does sound like to much bother...

WOW, 2ltr engine in such a light vehicle, the rear axle must've been strengthened to handle the extra torque??

O, would it not be possible to have the cylinders bored out to take a bigger piston, how much bigger is the 1300 piston to the 1l piston, then you wouldn't have the trouble with engine bay size

the 1300 has the same size bore I think but just one more cylinder, where I work when back in the old days they were building complete race bikes they used to take a xs650 yam lump and bore and stroke it out to nearly 850cc and that engine won a world championship in sidecar motocross.

Haven't got to stripping my engine down yet, but does anyone know off the top how much wall thickness there is between the bore's and outer wall of the block, definately gonna look into boring out the cylinders, am i correct to think that as the engine doesn't need alot of torque (due to the weight of the van) the stroke length doesn't need to be changed, I can just fit bigger pistons to increase the cc. Or is that toooo simple???

Just finished stripping the engine, removed the head to find all 3 cylinders filled with water. But whilst cleaning the head before stripping cam and rockers out, i've noticed a crack between the exhaust valve and water channel on no 2 cylinder, so for a better word she is F*CK'D. Anyone know how much would a new head would cost??, or second hand??
