I am only guessing but as the engine turns clockwise then it is most likely that the nut is left hand thread so that it is tightening the nut as the engine accelerates clockwise.
The Viscous coupling fan on the Cortina Capri Grenada etc were left hand thread with a 36mm nut. I've still got the special spanner for undoing them too.

Yes it is a left hand thread. Just a monster to get off had to borrow a tool and usea scaffold bar in the end to stop the spindle turning was worried that it wasn’t didn’t want to snap it

Thanks

Usually with a Diesel, with all the diesel fuel and engine oil most nuts and bolts come undone a treat.
Glad you have got it of though eventually.
