Expansion tank cap removal Empty Expansion tank cap removal

Bit of a silly question, I suppose, but does anyone know how to get the expansion tank cap off? The owner's manual only says to top up via the expansion tank when cold but does not say how to get the lid off.

It is a small round thing with two ears and with two hoses going into it. It will rotate until the hoses stop it but does not seem to be aligning any lugs with cutouts in order to release it. Neither does it seem to want to pull off. Now, I could force it but I don't want to break it nor do I want to risk splashing any antifreeze in my eyes.

Any ideas?

I was trying to check the level prior to topping up but I can't see through the tank properly. It does look as though it might be 50% overfull but I don't believe it so looking in through the top seemed a good idea. Doh!.

They just ease off - there should be 2 tabs on opposite points, if you pull on one it should come off easily. Surely you've had it off before though?

No, rad caps need a twist, expansion bottle needs a pull - like screenwash bottle.

Nope. Had it since 2003 but never really needed to touch it until now although a garage has looked at it about three times.

Thanks anyway for your suggestions, it seems I just have to pull a little harder.
