Hijet S100V, year 2000, gasoline. Hard starting, low power.

Hard starting and low power. When it starts it feels like one plug only is firing and if I touch the gas it stalls and after about 5 minutes it smooths out and is drivable but without much power. I have started by replacing spark plugs. Boy that third one is tricky to get to, only from underneath I think. Next, I guess, would be to replace spark plug cables, then distributor cap then, if no improvement, not sure. Ignition Coil?

Sorry my questions are not very specific. I am not a mechanic but can turn a wrench and follow directions. I am in the Dominican Republic and real mechanics are scarce.

Welcome, Dan. We are very fortunate to have a real mechanic on here who knows Hijets inside out. I'm sure if you like to offer him a week's free holiday over there he'll sort it out in a flash! (Or maybe just give you some tips on here so you can do it yourself!)  

I wouldn't want to have a stab in the dark on this poor running issue as it may send you in the wrong direction.

But first, which engine does it have? I guess it has an EF series engine - 660cc 3 cylinder?

Does it have a carb or is it injection?

Does it have 3 coil packs, or does it have a distributor and leads?

Yes to all your questions-- EF 660cc, 3 cylinder, distributor and spark plug wires, carburetor.
