'Gypsy' repair to exhaust...
Tail pipe fell off my back box a short while ago. I tried the gun gum repair kit which lasted all of 5 minutes. The gum turned brittle and porous and was pretty useless stuff. But the kit did give me inspiration for my own repair. I used a section from a stainless steel vacuum cleaner tube, cleaned off the exhaust at the joints with a grinder, wiped clean with some isopropyl, keyed the vacuum cleaner section which I cut with strips at the ends. I turned a couple back on themselves so they wedged into both parts of the exaust and were pretty solid and then sealed up with some steel epoxy rated to 260C. Its been over a week and is holding up very well at the moment:

Lasted just over a week! My latest gypsy repair was done using a whole stainless steel hoover tube clamped to the spare wheel carrier (wheel is in the back). The steel weld is holding strong on the new fix but does burn something off that doesn't smell good for a couple of hours driving and eventually turns black. I would weld a repair but can't get the back section off due to corrosion on the join with the cat. I'm not a good enough welder to do it upside down on my back so am holding off for now.

Inspirational pics. Got the exhaust, both sliding doors and both wing mirrors to do for sure before it goes in.
