Finally found the 4 pin diagnostic connector on my 1998 1.3 hijet! Until now I genuinely thought Daihatsu just forgot to put it in!

not great pictures I know but just wanted to share. I was looking for it so I could use the yellow/black REV wire for a rev counter. If anyone else wants to fit a rev counter that's where to look. When I found it it was tied to the back of that wiring loom with white tape

thanks! I always get a lot of help on here so here's to hoping that might prove useful to someone! I do wonder how they ever expected Daihatsu service technicians to find it to plug their SST into!

Yep it is the one!!! Well bloody done.

I have tested it this morning - it took some finding, I got that fed up that I pulled the whole dashboard out of my parts van.

I have taken some photos, and done a video, and will update the website and add more information.

Thank you so much.

It was perfectly timed, as my engine warning light has popped up twice in the last few weeks.

Now doing the test mode on it, it's given me code 52 - vehicle speed sensor.

Not sure what its for, I think you can do some stuff where you can see the lambda sensor trimming voltage from a connector somewhere, and you can lock the ignition timing to the base line for setting up the cam sensor.

In order to get it that low I had disconnected loads of stuff to get the dashboard out, but it shows the location better.

I have just updated this page with the new information:-

http://www.daihatsuhijet.co.uk/hijet-diagnostic-engine-warning-light-flash-codes/

And I have put this video on youtube:-

Hi all,
new here, and new to fixing my own motor but have no other option and always good to get another feather for my cap!
By the luck of the hijet gods, I have the same engine fault code as was in the movie clip i.e. vehicle speed sensor open or shorted.
HighlyJetted, can I ask you what I should do now?
Where is the sensor? should I check for loose wires etc. before replacing?
The van seems to be running ok, no wierd noises or leaks, the engine light only comes on intermittently and if I turn the engine off and start it again it won't come on for a bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section but since the clip showed my problem, I thought it would be a good place to start?
Thanks in advance
pete

The vehicle speed sensor is in the dash clocks - part of the speedo assembly.

It is a magnetic reed switch that sends a pulse to the ecu every time the cable spins.

thanks for the reply - will get someone with a bit more tech knowledge to have a look for me to replace the speedo then.
I live in Guernsey and the "microvans" or "insectvans" are really popular with workmen here due to the tiny lanes on the island, there should be a few spare parts to be had.
Thanks again!

Hiya! I'm new to this site. Recently had diagnostics on my 1.3 EFI. Mechanic appeared to do what this article is about but informed me there were no error codes recorded yet the engine management light is still on. Looked at paperwork later and noticed he had tested it as a 1ltr van with only 7 potential codes. I can see this article identifies more than that Shocked The mechanic told me because the management light was continually flashing there was nothing wrong but the light is still there. Help!!Smile

There is some confustion here to your story valleydoll

The diagnostic connector for the 1 litre is no where near the connector for the 1.3.

Once you bridge the correct connector the light will flash.

If the light is constantly on, then there are stored error codes which will be revealed when you bridge the correct connector.

I can only suspect what your being told and what the truth is are ever so slightly different Wink

Confusion? Talk to me about it! I know the connector the mechanic used was to the left of the steering column tucked in behind the central console. He demonstrated that the engine management light flashed quickly, continuously, which indicated that there were no error codes stored (according to the auto-data site he had accessed). It was the printout he gave me that made me realise that he'd searched for the 1ltr van. I've since looked to try and check the codes again but have two plugs to choose from to the left of steering column none of which seem to have the correct colour wires! One is a 3 pin plug with 2 wires black/yellow and red/yellow which is next to fusebox. The second is behind fusebox, a 9 pin plug with 4 wires black/white, green, red/yellow, green/yellow. I also found a 3 pin plug to right of steering column underneath brake fluid resevoir with a black/white and green wire. I've a couple of manuals on disc(for different models I think) that came with the van but makes no sense to me. Can I try upload them to the manual section on  here? Thanks!! Smile

No where to upload them here, its just links to other hosted manuals.]

And yes Daisy - very very useful, I'd almost recommend printing out the list of error codes and keeping it in the van along with a paper clip!

Oops and apologies! My very frustrated ramble yesterday was totally irrelevant as reading back I've realised I was not in any shape or form referring to a 4 point plug! Good news anyway, took bits of my bus apart, found the CORRECT diagnostic plug and got myself some error codes. Happy!! Very Happy

Hi Matt,

I've just tried to test for codes and you mention connecting the black and white and brown and white wires. Do you mean black and white and brown and black? (as in you picture) I haven't got a brown and white on mine. I get a continuous flash when I connect the black and white and brown and black.

Cheers

Continuous flash means no errors present!

Black and white / brown and white - correct.

If the MAP or TPS sensor is giving a constant stuck reading you will get no fault codes.

Use this guide to test:- https://hijet.forumotion.com/t1794-test-your-suspected-faulty-sensors
