Locked keys in the van Empty Locked keys in the van

Post by MattS Sun Jun 02, 2013 7:37 am

Quite foolishly I locked the keys in the van last night but it was incredibly easy to get back in to it with a coat hangar as I have spent a lot of time messing about with the sliding door lock mechanism getting the interior handles to work.

Not that I want to post a guide of how to break into the van online but if anybody needs a quick how to they can pm me.

Additionally I meant to take photos of how to fix the child locks if they get stuck but I can post a guide if people would like me too

You can almost get in them without keys as quick as with keys.

To get into the back it probably is! I think I'm going to tape the coat hanger to the bottom of the van in case it happens again :-)

I must have locked my keys in my hijets about 20 odd times now.

Its the problem with pressing the door lock and closing the door.

Only to realise your keys are still in your ignition Embarassed

I have done it 3 times now. I too keep a spare key in my wallet for my MPV but on my Red pick-up and the white one I have taken the push down locking rod out completely so I cant lock myself out again.

I suppose there is one drawback in that you cant lock the door from the inside for security if somebody tries to get at you. In the the past -not in Hi-jets I hasten to add I have twice been attacked and had the door ripped open by an irate driver both of whom were duly dispatched very quickly. cheers

on the flip side.. ever seen someone fight a car door trying to get out after you lock them in... last one i did that too was a drunk driver whod backed in to someones car before i stopped them & locked them in just as i reached in & took their car keys out.... police arrived surprisingly shortly after that.
its a tool in my brain box to use against a driver.... & as you say.. one to use to keep em out too...

The best lock-in was by my dad . He saw two yobs smashing up a phone-box money box to nick the money so he drove his van up onto the pavement and parked it up against the door then used the other phone box to call the Police.

After looking my keys in on the cross chanel ferry I bought 2 magnetic boxes from the £ shop, painted one same colour as the van the just stuck it under the rad cover.

Thats a great idea Waz---- if you have a 1000 with the metal Rad cover.

The 1300 plastic grilles don't seem to be so magnetic though.

Cant think why ? ( Blimey, I am begining to sound like Logi now aren't I ? ) Embarassed Embarassed

Looking at the front of the van when you pull down the cover to to up the rad on the left hand side there was enough metal for the box to stick to.

I did this twice today Embarassed - first time was at one of my sites with ready access to a wire coat-hanger.
Second time miles from anywhere but I did have tool box out of van. Looked at missing n/s sliding door handle - was easy enough to slip up the lock and actuate the mech. Word to the wise, if you've a knackered door handle leave it on there or it's piss easy (ok, easier) to get into the van if it's completely missing.
