Replacing the steering wheel

Having found a boss which will probably fit, although the indicator self cancelling may not work, I now need to remove the original wheel.

The question is, how do I get the horn push off? Do I carefully lever it out with a screwdriver or similar or is it screwed down somehow? (The workshop manual is no help as it simply shows a numbered exploded diagram and says 'remove in numbered order'; no mention of methods or damage limitation).

As I remember it just pulls of, held on by 4 spring type things

Put your fingers under the top and pull!

Mountney Traditional boss kit MB099 for a Daihatsu Charade 83-87. Another manufacturer gives the same part number for that and the Japanese version of the Hijet that supposedly matches the European version. Therefore it should fit.

However, the self cancelling doesn't look quite the same but we will see.

The only other problem is that the part has been discontinued although they still have stock at the moment.

Sounds promising, only a 5 minute job to fit it, fingers crossed and good luck with getting the original wheel off with some force.

Remember to leave the nut on loosely whilst pulling against the wheel esp if you have someone hitting the column with a soft hammer.

Steering wheels are nose seeking missiles when released from the confines of the column.....
