Hi guys,
about to order a spark plug socket for '98 1300, can you advise me on the correct size, and correct length too if something longer is needed.

Thanks so much in advance

Didn't want to reply because spark plug sizing is a funny one.

So i've just gone to the garage and brought in two of my spark plug 3/8th drive socket that I use on hijets - and most other cars too.

One says 10mm on it, the other says 16mm on it.

Where both is incorrect actually because I think spark plugs are still imperial making it 5/8th

Basically your after the small spark plug socket - not the big one.

Sorry for not replying, but I didn't want to spout a load of misleading crap at you and i've been trying to revise for this exam.

No problem, I just got my finger out and did some research, from looking at the engine, spark plugs look a little awkward, will i need a socket with a UJ ? or can I get in there with a regular extension...

I managed to get a long socket in but, from memory I had to remove something from number 3 to get at it

I just use a 3/8 ratchet, and 2 short extension bars that wobble a bit.

For your information if the plug socket says 10mm it refers to the thread size but other makes refer to the AF size on the hex hence 16mm and I have half a dozen or so plug sockets and use two or three on cars the rest on bikes and you do need to watch out on outside diameter of the socket on engines like the hijet as the plugs are down holes and cheap sockets can be a little to big to fit, And as Daisydon and I found out if the extension is not a tight fit to the socket you need to be able to take the rubber grommet that holds the plug in to it when you take the plug out - out so your socket doesn't stay down the hole.
