but me thinks the timing may still be a tad out.
Hovis started 1st turn of the key this morning, once we knew it started and ran ok, we blead the system up.
Fan kicked in twice on its own with out the switch.
took it for a short test run, accelerating in top gear (slogging it to start) we could hear "pinking", once you let off the accelerator it disappeared.
none of us have strobe lamp to set the timing properly so will get it booked in to a workshop monday.

assuming.. that thats whats up with it?

also anyone know what the spark plug gaps should be?
998 EFI... i always just stick new plugs in and dont worry about gaps.. same for bike..

you don't need a stobe to time a motor, just run the engine up to temp so the choke is off then rev it gently to a fast idle speed then loosen the dizzy and while keeping the pedal in the same place adjust the timing back and forth until you have the highest speed from the engine and lock it off. On a normal layout you can do the job on your own but on the jet it is a bit awkward but a helper or screw driver wedged in the throttle works aswell.

hmmmm.. so far we have set the timing on idle. i'll mention this to matey... screw driver in throttle maybe the easiest way!

I've been too busy mines still in bits. Don't know if yours is the same but for the 1.3 it says in the manual to use Threebond 1194 between the camshaft caps (what the shaft sits on). Did you use this or any alternative as i'm having trouble finding three bond.

all sorted now, even after all the playing about with the dizzy rotor arm, it was still pointed in the wrong direction!
£30 to sort that at workshop. :0)

sounds like a sewing machine at the mo! lol think my mate swapped the engine!
