PROP-SHAFT RECAL INFO

Phoned WoMoCo and Ken the parts chap told me that only the 1300cc Hijets were affected. 1998 onwards.
He said best thing to do is phone your local Daihatsu Dealer with your frame number/Reg and go from there.

Phoning the dealer with your frame and chassis number? that's a good idea

get worried when i start referring to other bits of the hijet as bike bits..
nose cone= front end
pillion seat= passenger
when i started driving, i used to have my dip beams on! then one day i forgot to turn them off and killed the battery!
i still do life savers and even check up slip roads for the old bill!

I have had a car and bike licence for over ten years and I still do lifesavers and check slip & side roads, and when I'm at work and talking on the phone coz I has picked up a essex accent I have to ask for chassis numbers on bikes coz customers think I'm asking for a phone number instead of a frame number Doh

Thats okay my wife has owned more cars than me & don't have a licence & shes been riding pillion for 22 years and shes 6 years younger than you.

Same here, insurance ran out on 1 bike last month & MOT ran out on other 1 at start of this month.

I've sold mine ready for our first baby thats due today!!

I haven't ridden my bike since Monday because of the snow and I'm getting the biker's version of cabin fever!

Back to propshafts, I rang up about mine when I got the recall letter.

Within 24 hours it had a new propshaft fitted. They didn't say whether mine was defective or not. I got the impression they just changed it regardless as they had one on the shelf.

I've had the Hijet for about two and a half years now and the only real problem has been the propshaft which started making some very strange noises. This was replaced under recall last year and and work was done by the dealer in Baldock whilst I waited.

Whats the symptoms/ how do you know if it needs doing/ has been done?

get under it and give the shaft a wiggle up down and sideways and a twist each way while holding onto the dif side of the joint any movenet not felt with the other hand means there is play in the UJ but the recall is for the solid joints in the shaft I can't remember which is which but one is welded I think and the other is peined over.

The recall ones have snake clips and the replacement has circlips or was it the other way around

no symptoms as havnt driven it past loading/off loading off transporter. was just going to get the VIN checked if its been done or not.

I had mine changed frree of charge by the Daihatsu dealer at Baldock. The work took about 30 minutes and the service there was very good. Just get on to your nearest dealer and ask them to do a check to see if the work has been done.

Just an update on prop shaft got to take my wee van for a check as it comes under the year for recall.guy said if it's not gone over 12 years it's probably not needing done.Do I ask for it to be Done anyway or just leave it.I also like to say I got myself a wee suzuki alto as well x

Having read this my truck has the snake clips fitted, can anyone confirm whether that is the updated or old version?

Phoned my local listed Daihatsu dealer and was told that Daihatsu pulled out of the UK years ago!

They pulled out of car sales a couple of years ago but they still and have to supply spares for a period of time.

Think thats an updated one.
