Hijet Radiators
I need a radiator or two, so have been digging the dirt to see what I can find...
Yeah you can get a replacement radiator for a 1.3 for about £95 to £110.
But look at this, its an ebay auction for a Piaggio Porter radiator:-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Piaggio-Porter-Radiator-/200804732591?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ec0e50eaf#ht_4516wt_1030
Something funny about it though as it has hose connectors on both the top and the bottom.
I wonder if they realised the original design was flawed - e.g. prone to air locking.

Re: Hijet Radiators
I worked for many years in car accessory shops and main dealer parts departments. I can't recall ever having a problem with a re-furbed radiator, and costs were 50-75% of new (even less in the case of some Jags). The patches or worn paint suggest this is a re-furb, and is around the right price for that.
I think, on re-furbing rads, they take the end tanks off and clean them, then put a new core (of the right size) in between, re-assemble and paint. What's not to like?
Shop around though - if there's a place near you, go down with your rad and talk to them - you may get a better deal.

Re: Hijet Radiators
I have no problems with re-cored rad's, my post was more about how this Piaggio porter radiator is very different from the Hijet setup.
On the hijet, the inlet and outlet is on the bottom with the filler cap at the top.
While this porter rad has an inlet at the top and the outlet at the bottom.
Quite how they route that top hose is a mystery! This needs researching as it may unlock the dreaded overheating hijet syndrome.
It may be beneficial to put these late model porter parts on a hijet when repairing a knackard radiator is what I'm thinking.

Huh? How would that work? I'm sure the 993 rad has top and bottom hose connections.HighlyJetted wrote:On the hijet, the inlet and outlet is on the bottom with the filler cap at the top.

Is it just me or is the filler in the wrong place?

Filler should be at highest point - I leave my van on the road where there's avery slight incline when re-filling. I reckon the problem, as in so many, many cases, is trapped air (meaning, of course, that there are loops or kinks in the system)

Yeah the water goes up one side, over the top and back down I think. WEIRD I KNOW!!!
I'll get some pictures up tomorrow.
And yes Logi, I'm not sure how you access that cap once its fitted?
Re: Hijet Radiators
The 993cc rad has a standard in the top out the bottom set up this one flows across which isn't unusual and I think that is very late type porter which is like the super carry with the false engine bay.
Re: Hijet Radiators
That is the replacement rad I will be fixing the orginal tomorrow as now have the third leak on this one, the first repair lasted nearly 2 years.
