Re: My new Hijet
There are so many variables on the insurance calculation!
Increasing your excess works well, as does living in a low risk postcode.
This is the cheapest insurance policy I've ever had, my 1.5 group 7e civic was £650 last year.
I am 29, clean licence and no accidents in 5 years, 4 years no claims. Budget have quoted me £298 I think.

The cheapest policy I've ever had was for my V8 4.6ltr converted TR7 (13.4secs 1/4mile on the strip) ..... £145 a year full comp .
Sold it last year though .
Think I'll get another one .

The last time I looked the ABI (Association of British Insurers) listed the MPV as an estate car so yes, all insurance companies should insure it as a car. As mine is, with Aviva.

Re: My new Hijet
Just put a new drivers side door on this earlier while I was waiting for someone, the old door had a pretty bend dent and crease on it, the new one is pretty clean other than some chips which i've touched in. Swapped the passenger seat over too as the old one had a little hole in it. This van is pretty damn clean now, I just need to wash it as the new door is the only clean bit on it
Re: My new Hijet
I'm half tempted to put it up for sale this weekend, give it a wash and hoover out tomorrow, get some decent pictures while the sun is shining.
If I can get it sold I can then start running the red LPG van, that way I could get it tested properly, but if it turns out to need a head job I could take the head off the parts van in the garden, get it pressure tested and skimmed, then bang it on in a day without having to wait on the turnaround of the cylinder head.
Should I or shouldn't I?
Part of me is thinking I should keep the white one and sell the red one.
Selling the white one might be the worst thing I do as its such a great example

Re: My new Hijet
It works enough, plus I work best under pressure.
What's holding me back on the red one is a lack of insurance. If I take out another policy it'll cost me a fortune.
All the road test have been done by my mate who has a motor trade policy so he can drive any vehicle that hasn't got insurance on it. But he's a busy man running a car recovery/logistics business http://www.eccar.co.uk so I have to wait my turn. Warm ups and cool downs take time he hasn't got to spare.

Re: My new Hijet
Hmm. You have a minty wee Hijet that runs a treat. And a potential shitter.
Which one should you keep?..........

Re: My new Hijet
Hmm I wonder hey?! Same time though the red one is very tidy, still can't believe my luck with how much it cost me.
Driving home tonight I thought how my white van would look on the compomotive wheels, then in a blink of an eye I thought...
I'm keeping it - it just too tight and clean to flog it.
I have another little modification lined up this week to the hijet, just awaiting a parcel
actually 2 parcels, as I'm having gauges too when I get round to it

Re: My new Hijet
I need some centre caps and wheel nuts next. Can't use the standard wheel nuts as you can't physically get a socket onto them, so i've used some other random ones i've collected over the years but they are a bit scabby and don't match. Centre caps are a very funny size, nothing I have knocking about fits them. Might have to make something or speak to Compomotive.

Re: My new Hijet
I'd have to measure some but Ford ones from the 70's are like the weller ones in stainless and have spring clip.
Re: My new Hijet
I've got this cunning plan to fit the proper daihatsu caps. All I need is some 70m OD tubing, some silicon and a dozen virgins.
