Fuel gauge woes

Well mine doesn't work, and its been butched by the previous owner, lots of bits of wire twisted together etc. You know how it is.

All I've found out is:-

Yellow and green does the fuel gauge
Blue does the fuel light
The black and white one on the sender is ground

I've taken my clock cluster apart and I think the fuel gauge itself has been killed.

And I think the half of the sender which does the fuel light is dead.

If anyone has a spare sender or dash board bit i'd love to get my hands on it.

Anyone else have fuel gauge problems?

yeah I did... on mine the little float inside the tube had fallen out. seems thats as common as the wires on the sender corroding as I came across both when looking for a replacement.

Hee hee. Just brimmed my tank and now the fuel gauge is dead. Does this sound like the float problem? If so, is this going to be pretty easy to fix? It's a bit of a bummer as this is the first time I've filled it and I have no idea how far it's going to go before I run out. What's the range on a '98 1.3 petrol MPV with a full tank?

I've managed about 180 miles from my 1.3, probably could have pushed to 200 without problem on reflection as only took 30 quid to fill it. Anyway, the petrol gauge seems to work best when it drops to about 3/4 full. I'm happy to live with it, now I know. Thanks everyone.

When we done the trip to Hungary we found 200 miles a good benchmark bearing in mind that was continuous running not short trips
