Posting an update :)
As per the title, I thought I should post an update
I got a van....but not a hijet.....
I got a really good condition Ford Transit Mk5 SWB with the 2.5Di engine
its got a diesel powered heater as well, so on a very cold morning I can preheat the cab
I still miss the hijet in some respects, but the transit is bigger and roomier for me :p

I hope you really enjoy the Transit. Fords always bring a smile to my face. There was an advertising campaign in the 70s in Australia that "Going Ford is the going thing" which the keyring companies ripped off by adding "but getting a Ford going is another thing". The first car I had when I moved to England 18 years ago was a Ford Escort. It packed up in sensational style - cam belt broke and the rods bent. I was in the middle of nowhere. Yeah, Fords always bring a smile to my face...
I do genuinely hope you really enjoy the Transit!

I have Ford and they don't die easily I through the cam belt near bristol and the man from the AA wouldn't get me a cam belt saying it was all bent and never going to run again and towed me back to Burnham on sea further from home I found a cam belt fitted it lossened a plug and drove it home to Harlow and it only had one bent valve.

We've had a mk5 lwb Transit for the past 18 months, it's a great van & a bit easier to fit motorbikes into than the Hijet.
Parts are cheaper & more readily available too.
Still got the Hijet though, it's hibernating until I do a bit of work on it.
Can't bring myself to part with it.

Yes, I love the transit
the hijet was a good little van, but thats the problem....its a little van....
I have a sportsbike, so a transit is MUCH easier to fit it into (I can close the rear doors with room behind the bike :p)
its a 2.5Di so not a rocket ship
but a few mods (blocked EGR at the exhaust manifold, removed EGR butterfly from intake, turned the fuel pump up so it smokes a little), and its nippy enough
and yes, it has considerably more elbow room (especially as its a 2 seat model! )
Its also more economical than I expected......
I was hoping for 20~22mpg running around locally, but I'm getting around 25~30mpg (haven't done an accurate test yet :p)
it might get a turbo slapped on it at some point though....for some real fun
a nice big one
although I do have a T25 sitting in the shed....anyone want it for their hijet
