hello folks back to the old story of alloy wheels, im one of the lucky ones to own !2" alloys for my jet, however, i wish to expand the size and i am looking for advice on how big can we go, done a little research in to corrective nuts (wobbly nuts) they appear safe and sound!!!!, is there any body driving on bigger wheels , what size , are you using wobbly nuts , i was thinking in Idea the line of 15" alloys , i have access to peugot alloys
which i think have a pcd of 108, i have already lined up the wheels and they look as if they will fit, with wobbly nuts , however ther may not be a lot of room in relation to turning and hitting the wheel arch.. the off set appears okl but the wheel will stick out past the arches , i dont mind as i will apply new arches, can anybody give advice on this project, and again is any one driving with this set up what problems arose cheers bones851,,,,, Idea

Mines got 16" on it sporting 195 rubber, and they are 108 PCD wheels without wobbly nuts and its made the studs bend (previous owners great idea)

It feels pretty good on the road grip wise, but the steering is really stupidly heavy, and it doesn't self centre so you have to keep your hands on the wheel with tense arms. With wheels like this on it I bet the tracking will fall out quickly, the bottom ball joints will get ragged and the wheel bearings will take a beating.

Mine rub pretty badly close to the steering lock, you can't actually get it to the end of the steering lock as it makes awful sounds.

No exact answer really, just try them out if I were thee.

the steering is done through a linkage with bump stops so you coud adjust the stops to limit the lock if they only just rub on full lock so that they just clear as some MOT testers would fail it for insufficient clearance.

More to do with offset & width than size, you can always go really low profile to equate to the original or near as dammit rolling radius. If the wheel's rubbing, all MOT testers should fail it on that.

thanks very much folks, i guess its trial and error, i had seen a rascal sitting at traffic lights, gave thumbs up and all that then i looked down at his wheels , they looked huge, should have waved him down to enquire re wheels fitting, his arches were old school box shape nice colour of blue paint job, if i catch sight of the van again i will flag him down, spoke with my mech friend earlier, he,s reluctant to do the set up, same reassons as highly mentioned wheel bairings tracking balencing,,,,,,, i am aware corrective nuts are available on flea bay so i think ill give it ago, if it goes tits up then i,ll look for a smaller size 14" or 13", will convince mate to get his hands dirty, just finished a refit on door cards will put pics up 2 morrow, back to watching the stones on tv, cheers bones851..... tongue

I tried 14" 205 gti alloys, the pepperpot style ones. Without drilling the holes out they won't fit as the holes are too small. They use a flat washer style nut too which isn't compatible with wobbly nuts so you'd need a taper drilling too. The centres will need milling out quite a bit too. I considered wobblies but concluded that its not a sensible idea with there being no centre location on the back wheels.
I wouldn't bother trying to fit anything bigger than 14's personal opinion is that they look a bit wrong.

thanks very much 8bit, it does look as though it will take a lot of head scratching to make this work however it will only cost time and the price of correction nuts, i thoght there was a detailed list on this site for corrective nuts and suitable alloy alloy wheels these are of a 306 , 5 star style,,,

if it does,nt work out, i wont be to put out....... Sad

dont worry i always allow my mate to test drive all mods done will have camera in place just incase we capture the £250 vid, ha ha,,, i can see a fair bit of strain being put on the tracking rod and the distance between wheel and front suspension is not to be looked at closley, may not be that practicle ,shpuld now stop watching beetle crisis, keeps aspiring me to do more......wish a lot of you guys were closer we,d have our own hijet crisis, ha ha,,,,,happy motoring bones Mad
