Thermostat
Removed this today and replaced with a Gates 78* thermostat. Nice to have
1. Heat in the cab (not just tepid warm air) and
2. a temperature gauge that moves off cold.
Van runs better, idles at proper speed, has more torque on hills.
Pipes and rad caps needed seals cleaning to seal system.
Hopefully this won't reveal horrible problem previous owner trying to hide, but fine over last 16 miles.

Yes, that definitely does not look quite...’all there’! Good idea to clean all the sealing faces, something that’s forgotten, no point putting new rad caps in if the sealing face is all pitted and corroded.

Re: Thermostat
Even better with the beautiful shiny new rad caps which I will photo and show everyone because they are so fine compared to the made in england ones that are touted everywhere.
Meanwhile the water pump has decided it wants to start vomiting -- red water all over the road at my first stop of the day. A new pump on the way. It's quite a novelty. All my previous vehicles have given me so little trouble with cooling that they may as well have not had a cooling system. I hope the Piaggio can prove itself in other areas. Currently it's losing on cooling and fuel efficiency, not to mention tyre choice and stereo fitment options.
Where did you find your fancy 13" wheels raggy?

Re: Thermostat
The results are in:
mpg without a thermostat, 34.9
mpg with a thermostat, 36.5
If anyone likes a puzzle,
With fuel at 121.9p/l, how many miles until I save the £21 I spent on my fancy Gates thermostat?

Sorry for butting-in on your post gogopiagio, but.....
Raggy, are your wheels 13"....if so, what size tyres have you fitted on them and has it made any difference to the speedo (mph) reading?

Re: Thermostat
Mine are 13” with 165-70 tyres. Found that the speedo is virtually spot on. Was slightly out when I swapped them but I had the needle off when I replaced the instrument background. Set the needle to 0 and partly pushed it onto the spindle, then rotated it so it goes past the stop pin and then pushed if fully home. Seems to have done the job so maybe it wasn’t quite right in the first place.
