No MOT for me. I hate it.
So I've got this 1,3 Porter from december 2003. I'ts the brakelines. They have got to be replaced. Also the rear silencer is gone after 5 years. (A lot of short trips will be the reason) Because I can't repair this myself it will cost me € 850,--
Is this worth it or shall I say goodby to this van.
it's a hard decision!

That's hard to say...
It also depends on the state of the rest of your Van. Don't know the mileage, and how many rust and dents it has.
Do all brake lines need to be replaced or just a couple?
You can also try to find someone else to do it for you for less money...

Well it's body work look fine from a distance but it has got it's dents. Rust .... not that much vissable for a 14 year old one. But I have olso got this silly leak at the front window ... that area is rusted.
They said every line needs to be replaced. I understand the RDW is much sticter on brakes nowadays. It's a lot of labour. They have got to remove the petroltank (OMG great moment to repair the sender) and an the front is not much working space.

I had some rusted brake lines on mine, but I found some perfect brake lines on the scrapyard. Replacing them was easy. But not all brake lines are easily accessible. It will take some work.
If you are thinking about selling it and you want to replace it with another. Then it will always be a surprise what you are going to get. And you know the good and bad things of your Van.
Prices also went up a lot, so buying a decent second hand will cost you more then 850 euro's.
Eventually you are the best judge...
I don't know if you have the possibilities to do repairs yourself? Changing a muffler is no rocket science. If you can remove all brake lines and keep them in tact, then there are companies who can copy them for you out of new pipes. This is not to expensive. And then you have to mount the new ones back in to place.

Re: No MOT for me. I hate it.
At the end I found a mechanic who did the the job for less. He cleaned / sandpapered the break lines to the metal were necesarry and coated them to prevent them for rust.
It will last a few years.
The brakes at the back took a lot of time to get right. The difference between left and right was 71%. Dusty and rusty!
Final costs € 340,-- including the MOT.
