Re: Daisy is DEAD
just out of interest how would this be handeld by insurance in the uk?
over here it would probably be insured for the damage to the other car but not for your own damage.
and seeing it as your "fault" (i know its not, but its classified as that) you wont get any money at all.
you can insure yourself over here all-risk but that would not be financial worth it.
the monthly amount would be to high.
only new cars and expensive ones get all-risk over here.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
Scotia I should be covered as fully comprehensive insurance in uk covers both vehicles.
Have never de mounted the back romahome part as it is bolted and sealed to the chassis and pick up bed is not present. Insurance inspection is Wednesday.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
Woodie would be best to advise on the demountable being demountable.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
Oh Crikey Poppi!! Ottery St. Mary isn't going to be the same without Daisy around the district. All the work you and your son did with the engine change etc.
As Scotia says, you can sell the engine, but I have have only in 15 years sold one gearbox, so that is pretty unlikely to happen. But at least you can take the Romahome pod off of your pickup.
Why or who it was that takes the flatbed off and builds an angle iron frame I can't see the logic. The Romahome floor is pretty flimsy so needs plywood inserted between the frame so the weight saving must be about as much as a bag of sugar. Ridiculous in my book.
I have had two such conversions, and it takes a bit of work to get the Pod off but at least you can and you can find another Pickup to put it on too which is the good news - unlike the conversion that Joel has bought. The Matchsticks and Tin-foil Bambi bodies were coach built - - from the chassis upwards so how they have managed to swap that over I would be very interested to know - or perhaps I wouldn't thinking about it.
Still Poppi the one positive thing to come out of this is that you CAN transfer it to another Hi-Jet, and preferably a 1300 one at that.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
Insurance has written her off £2200 and will take her away going to take off split charge , camera , leisure batteries etc and curtains and cushions.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
Don't let them take it away. You could probably get it for £200 from them still leaving you with £2000. Even if you have to pay more you can get a really nice 1300 Pickup for £1500.
In my opinion it would be foolish not to fight to get it back from them. It means less for them to pay out for. Unless they have a policy not to allow the customer to buy it back.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
Personally I think that £2,200 is a pretty good offer for a 993cc Poppi. If they won't let you buy it back then stick out for more money, but if they are hesitant say that you will accept their original offer provided they let you keep Daisy. It is worth a try Poppi.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
If i kept it my son doesn't really have the time to spend on her and I am not able to so she will probably just go to the big scrapyard in the sky.
Re: Daisy is DEAD
Oh that is a shame Poppi. How about finding out if or how much you can get it for and if it is a good price put it on the Forum for sale. The Romahome body has got to be worth £500.
You have got Barry 6448 not far from you near Chard. He is always dabbling with Hi-Jet's. He must have had one recently as he did contact me about a part for a Demountable. If you were to go down that route you can send him a PM. Must be others on here who would be interested and prepared to come down to remove the body and put it on their own Pickup.
Then the scrap man can take the damage pickup. It's worth a go don't you think??

Re: Daisy is DEAD
To be honest Woodie I don't have the funds to buy it back and need all i can get for her to keep me mobile as she is my only vehicle , Just feeling so sad .
Re: Daisy is DEAD
You don't have to have ANY funds Poppi. If you can agree a price for buying it back then they will just take it off the settlement money that they pay you. It will cost them to get it picked up from you so they can save those costs too.
Anyway I will leave the matter now. I do appreciate that being a single lady probably you can't accomplish that which men can do (and I am not in any way being derogatory) - or some can do - some are just hopeless mechanically and that is why I try to help most Forum members out.
I hope that it all goes well for you and you know that I am almost always available to help with advice.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
I do have an original hi top romahome awning to sell too if anyone is interested ?
Re: Daisy is DEAD
Ok new update : I have negotiated with Insurance to keep her for spares only so is there anyone on here interested before she goes on ebay? she would have to be trailered away or if you only want to buy the pod the removal of it would be buyers responsibility.
She had a new stainless steel exhaust 3 years ago and change of engine (993) last year.

Re: Daisy is DEAD
Well done Poppi. That's good news. Hopefully one of the Forum members will up for buying it. Easier than putting it on Ebay.

well hopefully someone will want her for parts which is what insurance have said as she can't go back on road. If someone on here wants her for the pod i will leave the soft furnishings too if wanted as still look tidy.
Re: Daisy is DEAD
