Post by BamBam86 Thu Dec 29, 2016 10:50 pm

Hi all I'm about to aquire a 1996 hijet pick up. I will be looking to build a drift truck with it. I was wondering if any one could advise the best place to buy some thinner seats I'm a big lad and could use abit more clearance. I was also wondering g if any one know where I can get a lowering kit?

About me I've been building g project cars since I was 7 currently I have a mk1 mx5 and a lexus ct200h both of which will be staying the mini truck is an inch I've had to scratch for a while. All my friends call my BamBam.

Well hello BamBam. If you have have got a rather large BumBum and a body to match then an early Hi-Jet Pick up just isn't going to be any good to you. They weren't designed for us over size Brits, but rather for Dumpy little Italians or small Japs, not Sumo Wrestlers like yourself. Rolling Eyes

The Pickup seats are wafer thin anyway and if you are retaining a front engined,, in line configuration then you will need the folding forward backed seats for access to the engine bay underneath both seats. You haven't told us what engine and configuration you are intending to use. If you fit rigid seats then you will have to unbolt the seats just to check the oil level or top up the oil under the passenger seat.

For more leg and Bum room in the cab you will need a later Piaggio Porter with the extended cab. It's about 4" deeper rearwards and would probably be the answer to your need of more room.

I have a 58 plate rolling truck that was an Electric version Milk Float and was left hand drive so the driver could alight onto the pavement instead of getting flattened by an Artic, on exiting the offside door.

This could be the solution to your project. Hello all! Dsc_0023

Welcome, as has been said, the pickup isn't exactly overendowed with room and the seat configuration is a problem, I've seen modded seats but nothing to give you any more space.

If you are a big guy, you should look at vans instead of pickups.

I have pick up (now with a welded diff and bike engine), but I felt my vans had better weight distribution for getting a slide on, and there is infinite more leg room in a panel van.

Got to love an MX5! Anyway, good luck.
