Hijet 1999 - Camper payout plans/drawings?
Hi. I've just bought a very tidy 1999 1.3 Hijet and I must say I'm well impressed with the nippiness and interior size (in the rear! my knees are touching the dash almost!).
But the idea is to make it into a 3 or 4 seater and be able to fold the seats away and sleep 3 in it SOMEHOW!? I don't want any campervan style accessories like bench or cooker or anything. Basically an overnight bus for 3 of us to get out heads down? Am I being unrealistic? We don't expect comfort, just the ability to do so!
Was thinking just a fold away rear bench for legal roadgoing seating that folds forward and then a mattress arrangement for the floor pan for 2 and then a suspended hammock for the 3rd?
Any got any ideas?
Much appreciated!

Hi,
How are you getting along with your dayvan / camper conversion?
I just got a Hijet for a similar purpose, as a small day van.
For seating and sleeping, we have just acquired an ikea Exarby sofa bed.http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S39887296
This fits inside my 1996 Hijet as if it was purpose built! Essentially this creates a two seater van, with a long comfy bench seat down along one side in the rear. By lifting the bottom of the sofa bed up, the whole thing slides out in one fluid action into a bed which completely fills the rear of the van, leaving space below the bed for storage. It works really well, stays put whilst driving (it really fits tightly!), and as the whole thing can be simply removed, it doesn't consitute a modification from being a panel van. Of course you wouldn't be able to carry passengers on the sofa bed!

Hello!
I have a few pictures, I'll get them uploaded later! The only potential problem is that in seating mode, the frame touches the rear window, so I would recommend only driving in bed mode, not sofa mode, otherwise one of those lovely unexpected hijet jolts or bounces could break the rear windscreen. For a table, we have just acquired a second hand 'over bed table' which fits over the sofa perfectly too. We'll be taking our hijet from Hampshire to the Highlands camping in april, so i'll be sure to let you know how we get on!

VERY happy to have found this thread! Was looking for the easiest option to build in a bed in the back of the Hijet for weekend getaways and here it is.

I have just used Google Translate to translate from the German into English Logi. Does it at the press of a key.

And did it read correctly? Or is it strange and stunted?
I wish I could read it, so it comes across better

Well you can read it of course. You wouldn't understand it though.
