Do I keep it?
Hi,
1997 red hijet did me three years with minimal hassle, then bought 2001 white hijet and I'm three and a half years down the line. Just been to see a 2007 porter and it drove worse than mine! It was 44k, mine is 50k.
Mine needs.....headlight reflector and both rear wheel arches welded inside at the front of the arch. Ive got 2 months MoT left....hmmmmm...just welded the exhaust box back together so that is ok.
What do I do?
I paid £750 for this three years ago so it owes me nothing, but unlike the old red one, the cooling system works. The red one went to Africa and I got £400 for it!
Are rear wheelarch innards an MoT failure?
Hoping this is busier than daihatsu-drivers.uk...I got a few tips from there years ago including Sean in ireland.
Cheers
Andy

Young man!! Wash your mouth out!! Although expletives aren't exactly unknown on this Forum, using the one you have used is tantamount to being an unforgivable sin.

I am talking about the words : Daihatsu - Drivers UK. The fact that you have been associated with an Anorak Clad group, of Nerdy bespectacled people , should really eliminate you from joining such a Gentlemans Club as ours, with such enlightened articles that stimulate our minds daily with humor and satire. I have got a good mind to Black Ball your membership right now.
But perhaps I will instead just say WELCOME to the Forum. Enjoy your stay here and yes you will find plenty of help on here - and plenty of Mickey taking too.

That was a long time ago... and my password has expired, and I had a different van at the time, so maybe you can forgive me?

Phew....
Nice day today, gonna tackle the headlight issue I think. There may be different expletives later.

Hmmm.... Getting the glass off the headlight body isn't as easy as the videos....
Anyone got a headlight? Driver's side? Either a good one so I can mot it or a bad one so I can sell it quick...

Oh yes, if its a 1.3 you will 'probably' find one...but are you prepared for the cost? The words 'cheap', 'headlight' and '1.3' are very rarely found together when talking about Hijets! Now if it was a 997, thats a different matter (guess what I have and need to replace).

Advantage of a 1.0 over a 1.3: that and they're prettier

Re: Do I keep it?
If the inner arches are rusted to the point where you can make a hole in them, it should be an mot failure, as it's within 30cm of a structural area - e.g. suspension mount.
The headlights can be opened, but it takes some doing.
I say keep it, better the devil you know, than the devil you don't.

Re: Do I keep it?
Easy bit to weld too, headlights are a pain tho, but if yours works well otherwise I'd say keep it.
