Hijet Parts Empty Hijet Parts

Post by difflock123 Sat Dec 11, 2010 12:41 pm

Hello people.

As I think I mentioned before, my hijet is off the road now for 2 reasons...

1 - My Landy is on the road finally
2 - My hijet has run out of MOT and it wont pass another one...

So I was thinking of using the hijet for parts for some of my projects...

but I need to find some info out first...

its a 96 993cc EFI model if it helps...

so here are some questions:

- What ratio is the rear diff? (e.g. 4.7:1)
- I know the propshaft flange on the diff is a 4 bolt, but is the gearbox end 4 bolt or the splined style?
- What ratio are 4th and 5th gear? (I presume 4th is a typical 1:1?)
- Is the hijet built as a monocoque chassis, or can the body work be completely removed, to leave a working rolling chassis like a Land Rover?

I am thinking of possibly building a trike or a homemade garden tractor, or very possibly a off road buggy using the parts...
if I build a trike, the engine/gearbox, the rear diff, and the propshaft will probably stay as they are to give a nippy and yet economical trike Smile

but if I build a garden tractor, I will get a second gearbox, and fit it inline with the first one (either using the hijet engine and gearbox with a different gearbox after the hijet one, or using a different engine and gearbox which then connects to the hijet box...)

The reason for the second gearbox is to act like a transfer box.
in 4th gear (presuming its a 1:1 on the second box), will give the same performance as standard.
but putting the second box into 1st gear, would give an very low ratio.

Thanks in advance Smile

Also, one other question.

on the EFI 993cc hijets, the manual says about a catalytic converter.

Is it a true cat, full of precious metals, or just a particle filter style one?

if its a true cat, I think it might be worth taking it to a scrap yard for some cash, thats all...

According to www.carbuddy.com.au, final drive ratio is 4.875 for a 1990 S85. Might be diff in aussie land though. I'm sure it's monocoque, but can't help with anything else, sorry.
