Sunroof again... Empty Sunroof again...

Post by leopard_pagan Wed Aug 19, 2015 6:35 pm

Been getting worse despite me "servicing" the seals twice in 2 years!
Sad time as i will now have to seal them shut permanently!
Dont mind doing the rear one as i never open it, but i do occasionally open the front one.

Any tips on sealing these? I have copious amounts of aquarium safe sealant... aim between rubber seal & glass then close the sunroof & leave to set?

I wonder if Woody has got any seals - they are apparently a bit of a tourist attraction round the IOW!

I know this is a really old post

Do you think it would be possible to replace the sunroof with Perspex fitted in place with some kind of windscreen rubber?

Toying with the idea of doing it to mine

Sorry for the late reply. It's think there is a very slight curve. I think i might struggle to make it seal, and finding a rubber that's fits well could be a bit tricky i guess

When I repaired my leaking sun roof it was not the roof to frame seal or the glass to rubber seal that was leaking. It was coming through the hinge and handle fixing pins. I made new gaskets for the two front hinge pins but the handle mechanism required more pressure to undo the screws than I was prepared to exert for fear of smashing the glass. So I ran sealant all the way round each of the hinge pins (as well as new gaskets) and sealed the handle mechanism the same way. No leaks since.
