Piaggio Porter 1.4 Deisel intermittent power loss

Good morning,

I am a new(ish) owner of an 05 1.4 Diesel Porter which is great! Unfortunately it has started having an intermittent reduction in power which kicks in for 5-10 seconds and then rights itself. It started yesterday after I filled up at my local station (with diesel!) which initially got me thinking that it is either a bad batch of fuel or it kicked up some crap which is now causing feed/filter problems. This morning it was accompanied by an odd smell, not burning as such but hot metallic maybe which stopped after a minute or so. It starts and idles with no problem and doesn't seem to smoke at all (that I have noticed) which has left me scratching my head. On reading through some of the topics this morning I noticed that some people have experienced similar symptoms related to the speedo. I have also noticed that the speedo has been sticking recently (sits at 15mph until hitting 30 and then shhots up/is slow catching up with acceleration) and am now thinking that this may be the cause. Can anyone advise me if this is the likely cause or if it sounds like something they've experienced? I'm going to get a new cable fitted as a matter of course but don't want to be damaging the engine in the meantime.

Make sure you put a new diesel filter on it.

Most derv running issues I get in at work are resolved with a new fuel filter.

Its a consumable, mostly neglected, and rarely if ever changed.

Thanks HJ. The Speedo cable is being ordered too as it defo needs changing but I'll put a new filter on at the same time.

Make sure you do one at a time, and test drive inbetween. Then you will know what made the difference
