hijet suddenly no power..
hi ive got a 2000 1,3 16v van.
this weekend when driving on the highway i suddenly had no power and had to redirect myself on the emeregencylane.
when i shut it of and started it again it was just fine...?
this is the second time it happened and its verry dangerous situation when there is no emergencylane
symptoms
-it happened when i was driving calmly behind a truck, i didnt shift or do anything when it happend.. i was just following a truck and driving 90kmp.
-all elecktrik works and i can press the gaspedal and hear it roar but nothing happens.
-i tried to shift back and press the shiftpedal o couple of times while redirecting to the emergencylane ... didnt help.
i hope you guys can help

Re: hijet suddenly no power..
A common cause of this is a faulty vehicle speed sensor on these hijets, you'll be cruising along then it looses all its power, still runs, will rev up, just hasn't got the power to make it drive! Vehicle speed sensor is in the clocks.
On a different van, I had a similar issue, which I thought was the vehicle speed sensor, but it was actually the fuel pressure regulator sticking.

Re: hijet suddenly no power..
ok thanx for your reply.
so i have to replace the clocks?
you mean the hole dashboard unit or can i just replace the sensor?
i have driven my hijet without a speedocable since i had it
i dont know if that has something to do with it..?

Re: hijet suddenly no power..
As you will probably know all Daihatsu VSS work the same.
Gearbox drives a speedo cable,
Speedo cable drives the clocks,
inside the clocks there is a magnetic reed switch, which when the cable spins a magnet forces the reed switch to open even rotation.
This reed switch then connects to the ECU.
Reed switch/VSS is a non replaceable part of the clocks.
So fix your speedo cable for a start.

Re: hijet suddenly no power..
seeing how its fixed to the gearbox and then the angle it goes to the front of the van.
its not verry wierd that its going to break at some point in time.
the cable itself is just about the length it needs so it always under tension this way.
i replaced the cable yesterday.
the faultcode is gone now and it hasnt shut down while driving till now.
so i think its fixed
i replaced the dashboard lights to because it was out already.
i drilled out the 3 green bulb covers and put some white leds in them.
lookes much better and you can actually see something now.
the old lights were extremly dirty and black and the green covers didnt look any better.
verry happy now
thanx for the info+help

What about same scenario but engine cuts out compleatly. Cruise to hard shoulder and she restarts via a jump as I'm cruising to a stop! Cooling system is fine but fuel filter is poss the original! 2000 1300 pickup!
