Air Filter cures a problem.... Empty Air Filter cures a problem....

Hello fine people Very Happy

As some of you may know, I posted about that I fitted a conical airfilter to the Hijet.

Mine is a 1.0 3 cylinder EFI.

I took the airbox out along with the rubber hose that runs to the frame rail.

I then fitted the airfilter to the short pipe connected to the throttle manifold.
The conical air filter just sits under the drivers seat where the airbox used to be.

There is a sort of downside that wont appeal to all people.
The induction roar is loud...but personally I like it.
Its added a noticeable amount of power and torque, especially at the bottom end of the rev range.

The really odd thing though.

Today is a hot sunny day, which usually means the hijet temperature goes almost to the white at the top of the gauge, the fan is on, the vents are open and the heater fan is on....

However, with the fan overridden (as most are Razz), and the new air filter, the temperature never went above 1/3rd in light traffic.
thats with the fan switch set to the first solid dot (so the vents are open, but the fans not running), the heater set to max (I never move it).

It finally did reach 1/2 on the gauge, but I was giving it some welly, as I was a bit bored of the traffic Razz

I was shocked, but it seems the conical airfilter is the way to go for the hijet, to cure it getting so hot...

The only thing I can think, is because the engine can suck in much more air, the engine injects more fuel, which both in turn keep it cooler....

Might be worth others trying it, as the other advantage of the filter is you can just clean it, not throw it out...

I will keep you posted on whether it was a fluke, or an actual cure...

The engine had much more power, and torque though...

The only reason why I can think it may have cured the over heating, is because it allows the engine to suck in more air, and naturally the engine squirts extra fuel in.
Which in turn both help to keep the temp down...

Bit of an update:

Went to get some building materials yesterday, and needed to go and get it quickly.

It was hot, and dry.

I hit the fan override switch once the temp gauge started to move up.
The heater was on max (as usual), the heater fan switch was set to allow air through, but the fan isnt on, if you understand what I mean.
The windows were open.

I was frankly hammering it a bit, so I could finish the job (miscalculation on requirements...)

So cruising along @ 60mph+.

But the temp gauge didnt move above 1/4~1/3...

It finally did when I had stopped and was loading the van (temp went to about 3/4).
But once on the move again, it dropped back to 1/2 very quickly, and stayed there (the home journey has a big long hill, and I had 350~400kg in the back plus me and passenger...)

It seems that the conical air filter has indeed helped to keep the van cooler....

I dare say if you dont like the induction roar under the seat, you could move the filter somewhere else, but it doesnt bother me.

All I do know, is the filter is staying on the van....

Hi, sounds good but do you mean you have your heater pumping out hot air the whole time or am I missing something? Question Emma

Yes I leave the heater on hot and on windscreen demist setting.

Then just use the heater fan if the temp gets too high...

Got a problem with the van though, so will post in the workshop section...
