Hijet for Young Driver
Can anyone tell me if a DAIHATSU HIJET 2002 1.3 16v EFI MPV would be suitable for a Young Driver as he only has 3 Years Experience, if so which insurance company would be best for him. Thankyou

I learnt to drive in my Dad's Commer PB1500 van (transit-sized) so no reason at all why he couldn't drive one. For insurance, try a combination of online and broker searches - I know it's time consuming, but could save £££'s - and put at least one mature named driver on his policy.

He could take the girls/boys out into the hills for a little Hijet RnR!
Go for it.
But tell him if he front ends it, he will never walk again

Well said Matt, my thoughts too, If you love them steer them away, but then again they do offer some good mobility cars now rather than them AC Cobra blue three wheelers things

The problem he is having is that all the vehicles are not registered as an MPV, they come up as a Pick up or Panel van so insurance is coming out around £900 which is too much for him, also as the vehicle is a 2002 the Tax is expensive so looking for an older model before 2001

Re: Hijet for Young Driver
At least with a Hijet you don't get the delusion of safety !!!
Plenty of young lads die in vehicles which are considered "safe" cars.
If they really knew you could die in any tin box on wheels, then they might not wrap cars roof first round trees.
I'm surprised I actually didn't end up in a tree at some point in my 20's.
Get a quote on an MPV - they might be cheaper - take a reg number off ebay/autotrader or something - but not always cheaper to insure.
Pre 2001 tax is much better - but its only 3 tanks of fuel different on the grand scale of things.
If he's 21ish, then insurance is bonkers expensive nowadays.
Unless you want a Corsa or something else which is stupidly low grouping on the insurance.
Such is life.

Re: Hijet for Young Driver
You wouldn't believe the vehicles which are cheaper to insure e.g. a vauxhall corsa 1.2 1999 is expensive to insure whereas a Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 Club model is cheaper to insure because a Corsa is known as a boy racers car to the insurance company and a zafira is a family car so is cheaper to insure, a Hijet 1.3 16v costs £900 to insure and a Corsa costs £1150. he has compared quotes on all comparison websites and contacted insurers direct.

Re: Hijet for Young Driver
On this subject I was bored on night looking at quotes for when I pass my test. Apparently it would work out cheaper for me to insure a 1994 ford transit long wheel base. 2.5 Diesel. Than a 1993 3 door, 1.2 petrol fiesta.high-jetter wrote:You wouldn't believe the vehicles which are cheaper to insure e.g. a vauxhall corsa 1.2 1999 is expensive to insure whereas a Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 Club model is cheaper to insure because a Corsa is known as a boy racers car to the insurance company and a zafira is a family car so is cheaper to insure, a Hijet 1.3 16v costs £900 to insure and a Corsa costs £1150. he has compared quotes on all comparison websites and contacted insurers direct.
(Though hijet is cheaper than both of them )
