Wobble nuts yes/no??? any one used them
hi peeps
i gotsome bald tires on doris, i am reluctant to fork out pennys for the stupid little milk bottle tops she has on her now and havnt found any decent alloys that will fit, i do have in the garden a set of pug wheels with good tires, wobble nuts are not mega expensive but i am really unsure about them, anybody got any experience with them alongwith what wheel sizes and driving style etc
Regards
Danny

Re: Wobble nuts yes/no??? any one used them
I haven't had any experience with them personally but i plan to use them. I've done a bit of research on them and some of the guys on the driftworks forum use them and seem happy with them. I figured if they are ok on a drift car they should be ok on a hijet. Only thing i can think of that may be an issue is the lack of a spigot on the rear of our vans but if it causes me a problem in centering the wheel i will probably go completely OTT and use a DTI to centre them as i rarely have the wheels off.

Rears are lug centric, hit a pothole and they will move, fact. I'm tight as a badger's ring but i spent cash on proper 110 pcd wheels. But yer a big boy, you get to choose, we get to laugh if a wheel falls off though

I've had a look and i can't see the wheel moving to be honest. As the PCD of the studs is obviously larger than the PCD of the wheel, the studs are pretty much against the side of the holes in the wheel so there isn't any room for them to move. Whether it would bend or break the studs is a different question though.

Had 4x100 wheels on a Fiat, hit a pothole, wheel moved, wasn't speculating.

wobble nuts on a work horse hi jet or a hi jet you want to drive above 48 mph is a big NO WAY from me. A mate a work has a 1300 pickup running some 15'' 108 pcd on wobble nuts , he's knocked the rears out of centre more than once and I'm sure it won't be long before a stud snaps with the amount of force he puts on them. He can't go over 60 because it would shake the cab to bits. i pass him at 80 on the way home most days wobble free! ha ha ha ha.
i weighed it up and i just wouldn't have felt safe with them , so i brought 110 pcd wheels.

Its all about the lack of centre spigot/flange
I'd put them on any car all day, as long as it has a tight fitting spigot.
But a hijet has no rear spigot flang thus described as a lug centric fitment.
I'm sure this topic will fall apart soon!!

You may find the offset an issue depending on which pug wheels they are.
And some peugeot wheels have an odd bolt flange shape, so look carefully.

I still say the answer is to use offset studs they don't cost that much more than wobble nuts and you will then have a 108mm PCD hub.

Re: Wobble nuts yes/no??? any one used them
cheers for that hijet1300gt, thats pretty much what i expected but wanted to know for sure.
i would love to just go out and buy 110 pcd wheels but i cant find any, i did have the thought of trying to make a spigot for the rear but not looked at it yet,
mu other thouht (which i done to my mustang) is have the half shafts redrilled to take 108 wheels properly but again its just a thought i really need to pull my finger out my arse and go look

I had a look at redrilling the half shafts, only looked at the diagrams in the manual, but I'm not sure there is enough room

Re: Wobble nuts yes/no??? any one used them
on the muzzy we welded the original holes up and then redrilled the half shaft,
i had a thought about making a 3mm spacer with a spigot welded to it that bolts on to the hub, that would allow the original pcd to be retained and should allow safe use of the wooble bolts, only floor in that plan is i have never had the drums off the back so not sure if there is anywhere to bolt the spacer and i would need to get longer wobble bolts,

As i like pedantry, they're not exactly the same, they're wider.
Woody has some sets too.
