My 1997 1.0EFI hijet !
Here is my 1997 hijet! I fancied something different to a car so i bought this in px with a 4x4. Its just had a respray, ive put bucket seats in the front,a small racing steering wheel, the side door handles/wiper/washer jet and passenger door lock have been smoothed over for a smooth streak look! And ive just bought some 16" alloys for it!! Im suprised they went on because normally most people ive talked to before have said they biggest they have got on there hijet is 15's with low profile tyres, mine are 195/45r16 but could go smaller and go 195/35r16 but are hard to get hold of. The only thing my hijet needs are a new set of mirrors but its hard to get hold of a set,ive looked on ebay, breakers yards and ive trumped no luck at all. So if anyone is kind enough to let me know of any that would be greatly appreciated
If you have any questions please do ask
Matt.

Looking good.
What steering wheel & boss did you use?
What seats are they?
What PCD are those wheels, any rubbing on full lock & are you using wobble nuts?
It looks great, an inspiration to the rest of us.
Any parts you require, try here :-

I quite like the idea of smoothing over the sliding door handles...
Mine dont work (you have to open the doors from the inside )
Not keen on the alloys personally, and I like the standard steering wheel
And as for bucket seats, I will keep the standards as I am too big for anything else
Did you respray it? I noticed the door handles are body coloured...wont they flake?

The steering wheel is off an old mini cooper clubman and just bolted on without a bosskit.
The seats are bog standard bucket seats, all i had to do was bolt the runners from the hijet onto the seats and then bolt them back into the hijet, took 20 mins or so to do,any bucket seats will fit suggesting the runners will bolt on if not you can get them welded on
The wheels dont rub because the profile of the tyres are 195/45/r16 and they are the low profile tyres and there is less than an inch clearance from the door as part of the arch and im using the wheel nuts which has a long thread on them thats. Also they do stick out the arch by an inch but im putting arch spats on to make it legal but will look awesome when fitted!! Also im not sure what pcd the alloys are as they bold straight on there
Many thanks

Common problem on hijets is that the handles break on the outside! I did bodge it to make it work again but got fed up with that idea and just decided to smooth them over! Ive got on order a remote door and boot popper kit which of a press of a button door and or boot will open. As for the colour coded handed ive used etching primer so theres no chance that it will peel off!
Many thanks.

Re: My 1997 1.0EFI hijet !
I havent bothered trying to fix my sliding door outer handles, as it means I dont have to worry if I forget to lock them....
I need to sort out the tailgate though...
The damn release doesnt work from outside so you have to reach in to do it...
I will have a look at a remote release...
Might be the answer...
Where did you get yours?
Fair enough about etch primer...
You removed the passenger door external lock as well I see...
Any other mods you are thinking about?

The poppings kits are easy enough to buy over the internet but the problem is there is no live power going to the doors so will have to think about how im going to connect power upto the two doors without the wires showing.
Im looking for a 1.3 gti turbo daihatsu charade engine for fit in. Its hard to find one these days and the cheapest i have found is 600 quid!

the sliding doors on the MPV have a two terminal contact in the leading edge while these may not be easily available at the scrap yard many saloons have a similar contact in the boot.

I love it. The wheels are fab. I just tried 13" Minators without success. Is it best just to get multi hole alloys for these?

Hijet are 110pcd stud pattern and there aint many wheels that do fit the hijet's hence ive got multistud,i fitted the alloys to see if they would fit and yes they do..but the only thing u need to do is change the wheelnuts as they are offcentre sligtly. The alloys i have are either 108pcd or 112pcd pic so the 110pcd for the hijet is in the middle of these. But yes id say multistud alloys are the best way forward
