Hello. I'm new to this forum, and hi-jet vans.
But anyway, sat on my driveway at the moment is a little 1.2? (From what i hear) Diesel Hi-jet van. 1997.

As this photo shows, she's not fully road ready. Needs a few things doing. Including a new head gasket. yep, overheated...on its journey from Kent to Yorkshire, so most of its trip was on an AA wagon!
but should be good fun once she gets going. My father has one of the EFI 1.3 petrol hi-jet, (We believe that its a V4, is this right?) which is quite a good little van.
From what i believe the diesel are quite rare?

And one other question i have is about where the radio is mounted
Diesel Hi-jet van Jwre
From what i've seen of my father in his, the radio is in quite an awkward place. But from my hours of looking aimlessly round Ebay, I've found that some of the vans don't have that bit that the radio mounts in. So that left me wondering, Where is the radio in these van, is it in a more easy to use place? Or they just not have one?
If any of you know it would be helpful?
Thanks

Welcome along. The 1.3's are a straight 4. You have a standard radio console from Diahatsu it didn't come as a factory fit item in most cases but a dealer fit instead I find that the radio in ours is out of the way so doesn't distract me while I'm driving but it also has a remote control if I don't fancy leaning forward to adjust/retune.

Welcome along Smile
You can mount a short chassis unit where the clock? is in the van. There are threads about doing this on here. The centre consoles were available new for £20 a wee while ago, they do reduce legroom a bit though.

Thanks logi. I've had a look round them threads about mounting radios. For now i should be able to get on with the old radio. I listen to quite a few tapes as it. And i was thinking about getting a DAB digital highway for it. Though one of them short case radios sounds a good idea. Plus as we've found with my fathers van, a SD card is a lot easier then messing around with an MP3 player. Don't know what i think about making up a fancy case that means i lose an ash tray. But i'll see what happens. You would not happen to know what kind of center hub caps fit straight onto hi-jet 13 inch steel wheels would ya?

There's no need for tapes nowadays! Razz

You may want to measure your wheels again, cos Hijets have 12's as standard?

Yeah, its a clock, Just pulled it off to look behind when wondering about where to put a radio. Only problem now is, the tape holding it on is about shot, But that's not a problem mind.
