Central Locking

I knew the later vans/mpv's have central locking but until I bought my '08 Porter at the weekend I didn't know it has a remote fob to operate it. Annoyingly, though, the fob doesn't work. The green light on it comes on, and I went to a shop that can 're-code' and they proved it's sending a signal but guess that the cause was the vehicle battery being dead for a while (confirmed by previous owner). Any ideas on how I could fix this or do I have to go back and pay for him to do it?

You may have to sync them together some how.

What make is the system... go find the receiver, write down its model number etc, then download a manual for it

A lot of the remote systems require a "hold button A while switching main ignition on and off a few million times" while they learn the code

HJ, good thinking, have looked up behind dash but can't see it. Guess it's probably close to the central locking module - whould you know where they hide those?

I have got central locking on an X reg Pickup !!!! I have two fobs and two sets of keys with it.
Have any of you come across it before on a pickup.??
Have you dinoh as you have had loads of pickups I believe.??

That's early - my '02 van doesn't have it. Maybe an aftermarket fit?

I guess you could be right Peter. It does seem odd having it on a Pick-Up-- although it has got a Romahome body on it so that could well be the reason if it is aftermarket.

Don't suppose you've found where they hide the central locking receiver, Woody?

Remote central locking was on the optional extra's list!

Just dug out the key fobs and they have the CE mark on them and are made by Hawk . cant make out the model number and the only other dicernable  writing is " Licence Exempt ".

I havent had a chance to look in the cab today Peter as I have been out all day getting soaked to the skin pulling down wind damaged fencing and repairing the wifes best friends Cat House and run then returned to my yard to find my neighbours office roof half off so been helping him repair that and rescue all his Computer stuff and files and office equipment that hadnt had a soaking.

Thanks Woody and Logi - mine isn't a Hawk, I'm sure - fob looks just like the one pictured in the manual, so pretty sure it's a Piaggio one. I'd like to find how to re-establish the link though in case it happens in the future.

Well its better than being in the Doghouse I suppose Logi. Gayle has been lumbered with looking after her best friends two cats while she is on the Mainland for Xmas. I have put some Stirling board ( all the best things come from Scotland I am led to  believe ) on the back of the run which faces due SW into this awful weather and put perspex on the end to also give shelter from the weather. 
Damn animals get treated better than the Husbands. Theres something wrong here !!

Yep sounds like this is an aftermarket one then Peter. Tis a pain when the battery goes flat but being a pickup is easy to attach jumpleads to fire up the central locking.

The central locking module on our 95 MPV is just below the windscreen level passenger side and can be seen fairly easy if the glove box is out.

Hang on - '95 mpv with c/locking????? Was it offered as an option back then?

I don't know but it's deffo not standard the wiring is attrocious and held in place with garden wire in places but the lable on the control box looks like a dealer fit if it was I hope they paid the owner to practice before fitting to paying customers.

Yes optional extra on early ones too.

Most likely will be a botch job!!

Thanks for all responses. So, found the unit behind glovebox as Rich said. Looked original, no luck when googling number on it. Then hit on bright idea of looking in the manual (not sure why I didn't think of that in the first place) and sure enough, on pp 129 & 130 it gives clear instructions. 10 minute job - now I can make my van flash when I approach it!

The Porter 1.3 Workshop manual which is (or was) widely available on CD Rom on fleabay - think you have it, HJ.

same problem i have, remote locking was working fine then just stopped for some reason, put new batteries in the fob as one was nearly flat, and still not working. changed the batteries before and never had a problem do i need to re-sync the fob to the c/l module? anyone any ideas? mucho gracias!

OK, as you asked nicely:

New remote control detection procedure:
• Open the glove-box cover.
• Remove the screws fixing the glove-box. The position of screws is shown in the following figures.
• Remove glove-box extracting it from the instrument panel.
• Identify, the door locking control unit in the glovebox.
• Remove the door-locking control unit from its
seat so as to be able to reach the cable harness
to which it is connected.
• Identify in the cable harness, a white wire with a
free end.
• Remove the insulating cap from the free end of
the wire.
• Connect the white wire A to the red/white wire
connected to the door locking control unit.
• the vehicle turn indicators flash four times indicating that the detection procedure has started.
• From this time on, the procedure is differentiated
according to the vehicle engine.

• Start the engine.
• The turn indicator bulbs remain steadily on.
• Stop the engine.
• The turn indicator bulbs turn off.
• Press the remote control button to be
learnt.
• The turn indicator bulbs flash one time
confirming the remote control detection.
• Disconnect the white wire A in the control unit from the white/red wire.
• The turn indicator bulbs flash one time
indicating that the procedure has finished.
• Refit the insulating cap on the white
wire.

Final operations:
• Once the insulating cap on the white
wire is refitted, reinstall the door locking control unit in its original seat.
• Refit the glove-box in its original seat
and fix it with the corresponding
screws.

There are other instructions if you have the more advanced Gemini 7563, they run to many pages.
