Thermostat reinstatement
Hi all, sure there was a how to for the above somewhere. Changed the broken pressure release cap and early tests are promising. The next stage is get rid of the manual override and sort thermostat out.
On a slight side note, is there a drain plug for the expansion reservoir, it's full from before I replaced the cap. Guessing I could just unscrew it and tip it out but I'm here and the vehicle is out there in the cold, wet dark. :-D

Re: Thermostat reinstatement
I do the blow trick (!)
Also I fully recomend taking the bottle out and washing it out if its got scum on the inside like most have. I thrown a handful of gravel in them and and walk around shaking it for 10 minutes.

I use a big syringe £1 from a farm supplies if you live rurally.
I've been checking out thermostats for my 1.3....
Mine has no gasket ( should it?) other than the thinnish rubber ring that fits around the thermostat.
Originally It had this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAIHATSU-HIJET-BOX-1-3-I-16V-FROM-1998-THERMOSTAT-7-8315-/181218210143?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AHijet&hash=item2a3172715f
I replaced it with this one cos was a lower temp (77 deg) both still test ok
Notice the breather valve nipple thingy is facing the opposite way:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COOLANT-THERMOSTAT-DAIHATSU-HIJET-1998-2002-FTS428-77-/310728229889?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AHijet&hash=item4858d88401
Was thinking to try this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-Replacement-Thermostat-DAIHATSU-HIJET-1-3-16V-98-99-/231084118495?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AHijet&hash=item35cdafd1df
This comes with a gasket but the rubber ring looks too thick to me. I would think it would be easy to crack the housing when tightening up ( mine's already got split around one of the bolt holes, splitting outwards ):

Haven't seen gaskets sold on their own, the more I think of it, it must need one & could of been causing air coming in.
Shed any light on this?

Re: Thermostat reinstatement
The rubber ring is the gasket, but I always use a little bit of instant gasket round the face.
Also I clean out the groove with a sharp littl screw driver as I like the thermostat seal sit nicely.

Re: Thermostat reinstatement
Wow, was it really October since I last came on. Poor neglected HiJet.
Has anyone done a How to thread on here? Or are there some simple stages one can list.
