Door mirror change on my HiJet
my original plan for today was jack van and up give it a good going over as i only got it last night but the great british weather put a stop to that so a couple beers later i remembered about some bullet mirrors i got for my mk1 escort years ago and they been sat in box since so i dug them out and had a play
this is original mirror, i dont think its stardard but its awfull makes he look like dumbo
a bit of 5mm plate mirrors were attached too
bullet mirror held in place
i think they should look sweetson gonna tweek plate and get them fitted tomoz, pics will follow

Bet swaping those dumbo ear for the bullets might give you another 5mph top speed!
You wanna sort that rust on the aerial mount asap as they get worse and worse there, then the water tends to run down the inside and rot the floor out.

First mirror deffo not original - bullets might look good but I love the amount of vision the (relatively) large genuine mirrors give.

They will be all right to apply your lipstick and powder your face but that's about
it. Sell them on eBay and buy the proper ones with the money.

Re: Door mirror change on my HiJet
Thank you for that. It is a standing joke on here my inability to download
pictures using this stupid format.. Its a good job I am thickskinned as
well as thick too. But myself and HJ are the ones with all the spares
that others need so making dosh out of something I love doing can't be
that thick L. R. can it.??
Where the hell did you get that nickname from for crying out loud ?
Enjoy our Forum-- actually we have got a great crowd on here who are
really kind and thoughtful and one old/young Scotsman with the most
acerbic wit you will ever come across. Doesn't say a lot but but what he
does say will have you in stitches and is always spot on.

Re: Door mirror change on my HiJet
ok went out this moring and had a potter about and mocked the mirror up, what you guys think any suggests or comments welcome
i started out marking the baking plate
Drilled and then counter sink
then bolted it all up and fitted to van
as said above it is only mocked up and i will extend plate clean it all up and paint it but wanted to see what it was like before i went too far with it,
also i know i didnt have to but i thought i would show a little of the process as well and if there is enough interest ill do a full step by step how too:alien:

Not a bad idea! - Not too shabby looking either....
If they give a reasonable rear view all good. They look quite cool.
I was thinking of using other than standard myself - second hand ones are going up in price and rare as hens teeth, plus new ones are about £115.....each!

Re: Door mirror change on my HiJet
Hope your not offended ,but not the ideal mirror of choice IMHO , and it looks a bit out of place on the mounting , I am sure there are other options from the scrap yards or I would keep it original . Sorry

Re: Door mirror change on my HiJet
no offensive taken mate thats why i asked, the mirrors on the van where off a tractor or something and could see nothing at all, i not planning on spending any money on the van just yet and these mirrors i had lying about, i do agree with you the mirrors do look a bit out of place on the brackets but not really much a can do about it because of the mounting holes, ill keep playing with it see what i can come up with cheers for your thoughtseddie0303 wrote:Hope your not offended ,but not the ideal mirror of choice IMHO , and it looks a bit out of place on the mounting , I am sure there are other options from the scrap yards or I would keep it original .
