Now called Monty from Ponti lol
You might laugh ,but we all do it . Yes name our vans or cars , so mine has now been christened Monty from Ponti , as it was a Pontins maintenance van at some point before having the lift up roof fitted . Well progress is going well and the cutting back and repairing paintwork is the priority at the moment ,before the weather breaks and then its just a case of having another look at the surging revs problem before the MOT planned for Saturday .
In addition to the rusted headlight silvering , I also did the front indicators to day with the chrome spray ,as the moulded casing was really faded on the inside and it did make a big difference to the brightness of the bulbs .
The wheels / tyres arrived today as well as some other bits that I have not opened yet ,so thanks Matt for the quick delivery and my compliments on the wrapping of the wheels ( Very professional ) .
I have checked all the usual pre MOT bits i.e brake pipes greased and wiper blades checked , lights etc but just wondered if there is anything out of the normal that are prone to going wrong on the Hijets for the MOT .
Next stage will be doing a tidy up of the interior and a semi camper installation and install a decent sound system , so the work is not going to be over for a while yet .
Best to all and thanks for the advice and interest shown by yourselves .

ANOTHER GOOD DAY
Well I am making the most of a bit of quite time before it kicks off again and spent another day on Monty today. Thanks to Matt and Woody for the speedy supply of the parts etc , ( Would recommend them both unreservedly ) . Today was spent fitting lights wheels , and new antenna , then carry on with getting the front plastic headlight , bumper and rad cover resprayed satin black ,as I hate that grey plastic , and then did the rear bumper and mirrors , so he is looking very smart now .
A check of the float in the brake fluid bottle showed that it was low , so I will follow that up tomorrow when I get some fluid so hopefully just a top up .
Its then a case of sorting the surging rev problem, now having a pair of new rad caps may sort that one out .
Will put some photos on of the before and after when done .
Best to all and special thanks to H.J And Woody .

Re: Now called Monty from Ponti lol
Hi Waz , I was thinking it was coming along well myself until today , and was hoping to get it in for MOT tomorrow , until I looked into the reason the brake warning light was on . Found that a rear brake cylinder is leaking causing loss of fluid . and the horn has decided to pack up and the indicators are coming on with the side lights on the front . Its a case of you get one job done and then the gremlins strike and you get two more jobs to do .
So its back to the drawing board and start sorting out the new list of problems and then hopefully get it in for MOT next Saturday . One thing I found when checking indicators and reverse light ,is that the metal body of the lights is exposed to the elements and the wiring is also attached to the body . The lights on mine were badly corroded and if they had been left any longer they would have rotted through so I have greased the bodies of them to prolong the life .
Well if everything was easy , life would be boring
Cheers

Re: Now called Monty from Ponti lol
Ground point on the front bulk head might be the cause of your dodgy lights.
Hijet horns are crap - the horn, the switch, the connectors
Rear brake cylinders are common to leak, they are like £20 each at a motor factors.
