Insurance quotes
just had a quick peek at what i expect to pay for when i get another.. confused.com & the current one i'm one 1st Central only list the MPV van.. no panel van..
so what do you panel van types use?
also i cant seem to "list" the correct employment type.. i'm the stores-person & some assembly work in a company that makes fluidics (plumbing in science labs)! in the past i have just let it as "factory worker" coz its easy & covers quite a bit.
so far the quotes are coming back more expensive than i'm paying now!

Re: Insurance quotes
confused is a crap comparison site.
Compare the market is the better one of the few. They tend to have better deals listed.
And it gives you panel van quotes, but they tend to be under commercial vehicle insurers.
I pay about £280, but I'm a (almost still) young rogue with only 4 years no claims.

Re: Insurance quotes
ahh.. samat i dont have at the mo.. as just ball parking the cost.
spotted 2 more vans on gumtree in london area going cheap.
1s a MPV but kinda sounds.. um.. odd... no key, bought to export (nigerian), he never heard it run when he went & bought it, he cant tell me anything about it & is going to "try" & txt me the prev owners number so i can try & ask him..
2nd is a panel van listed as spares or repair.. only missing a wing mirror & got a damaged bumper. runs fine, got 7 months MOT & has no photos.
just pondering if anyone on here lives near Dartford to go have a look at it for me..

Re: Insurance quotes
its always a pain for me, any insurance co that doesnt insure vans will swear blind that your van is an mpv.... the insurance is usualy a bit more but you will usualy be covered 3rd party on other vehicles... however if you end up in a crash you will no doubt find they suddenly decide its not an mpv and your insurance is invalid!
i always end up insuring with a co that specificaly deals in vans, think there are comparison sites... something like vancompare.com

They sure would.
Then the next thing that happens is the Police knock on your door and charge you with driving without insurance (unless you can prove otherwise) because the claimants insurance company want paying and if your found guilty of driving without insurance they get to claim from the "fund for uninsured drivers" we all pay into as part of any insurance premium.
I know this first hand
Re: Insurance quotes
what bugs. me is i know it. would be invalid insurace if i bought it but all companys ive dealt with insist its fine even when i bring it up! they say " we have direct contact with the dvla and your number plate says its an mpv, so your paperwork is wrong" they need lining up and shooting

Re: Insurance quotes
On you V5C, next to "D.5 Body Type" what does it say?
All of my v5c's say "Panel Van", except the pick up, which says "Pick up"

Re: Insurance quotes
my body type is panel van
hence why i argue with the insurance companies, the next question i get asked is why do i drive a van and not a car! they seem programmed to think only men drive vans!, hey ho, one day they may get the hang of it!

Re: Insurance quotes
It lets me select 1-8 so if its a panel van I'd select 2, if its a MPV select 6

3:42am - you dirty stop out!
As the V5c says 2 seats and panel van, I'd conclude that registration wise its a van, and no one can blame the dvla for errors.

Re: Insurance quotes
I have just had a look at my log book for my MPV as a matter of interest and find I drive a van with side windows with no seats as the number of seats is blank. They seem to just fill in what ever they want at the DVLA. Any way I had better get on ebay and buy some seats as apparently I don't have any, if I post some pictures may be someone can identify them chair like things that I have in my van with side windows he he

Re: Insurance quotes
"van with side windows" is correct for a Hijet MPV.
Non of my vans have the seating capacity stated.
MPV's are not legally a car but they are "an MPV conversion of a van registered as a commercial vehicle."
It is an utter mess, and I think Daihatsu had to register them like this, otherwise petrol MPV's after 2001 would be require to be euro compliant with OBD2, CO2 emissions bandings and crash testing reports. Which I guess they didn't have so they kept registering them as vans, either vans with windows or panel vans. Thus why they are in the odd commercial vehicle tax bands etc.

Re: Insurance quotes
Newer Piaggio MPVs, remember the 05 one I was thinking about down your way? It was £135. Any I check are lower, tho Piaggio vans are dearer!
Yer not wrong, its a bloody mystery how they registered them.

churchill
You could try churchill, I just insured my van for £149 comp, if you accepted £0 excess and protected no claims it was only £170... fraudulent thoughts.
