Well done - we all knew you wouldn't be able to keep away from the hassles joys of owning a Hijet!

Miss the fun in diving them & I'm now driving 50 miles a day commuting & it's costing a fair bit in fuel!

Buy a 1.3 petrol, you'll regret owning an Italian Lomardini diesel engine

Diesel Hijet. Forget it. Gutless, thirsty, noisy, rattly rubbish.
Buy a 1300 16v petrol/lpg. Very cheap to run, plenty of poke, plenty of parts, fun to throw about too. Diesel--- I think not.

Sadly Hijet diesels are notoriously bad. Had no end of problems with them in my two years as Service and Warranties Manager at Romahome. please do NOT EVEN CONSIDER ONE.
The 1300 16valves are brilliant. The overheating problems in my experience start with the two filler caps not being checked for cracked or leaking seal often enough. I replace the two caps virtually every 6 months . What usually happens is that they leak - lose water and then overheat.
The owner or more often a garage doesnt bleed them properly by filling the system through the Radiator filler using a mains hosepipe and by taking off the engine bay fillder cap off untill the water and air bleed out for a short while then contiinue fillig the radiator under pressure till the heater radiator ( Matrix ) is full up and FREE OF AIR BUBBLES coming out of the little bleed hose which comes back onto the radiator filler cap neck and whilst still training the hose on the fillefr neck pop the cap back on so no air gets back into the system.
Regular checking and replacing of te 2 filler caps and proper bleeding of the system and I have in 9 years never replaced a head gasket. and I have owned a few Hijets in my time. .
Regards Stuart. Woody.

this would be my 2nd one if.. ok WHEN i get it.
last one was a 998cc mpv had for 3/4 years.. & did have to get the head skimmed while i had it.
lol at filling the system with hose pipe.. i did mine thru the rad at the front.. stuck the pipe in.. left it & got covered in water when it pressurised up & spat it out while i was stood in front of it! lesson learnt.. stand to the side next time!
removed those silly orange knobs holding front panel on & used sticky back velcro.. worked a treat.

I made an adaptor up to go in the end of the hosepipe the same diameter as the radcap seal and glued the seal to it and enlarged the hole in the middle of it.
"Simples".
That way you dont look as though you have been caught short and loose all your street cred.....
Just keep the water tap turned on low and watch for the bubbles and water come out of the little pipe attached to radcap housing. Easy-peasy as Logi would say..
Good luck with your search for a good one when you are ready. There are always bargains out there.

Can I do it though?

What computer? Damn thing is in PC World having an engine transplant .
Its my Nokia
which is slowing me up.
Cant find any enthusiasm to work on the dead Hijet in this snow. My workshop
is five miles from home and and has a Romahome transplant I am trying to get done, in it and 10 vehicles in the compound I am much happier earning money in a nice warm customers holiday home putting in a complete new bathroom.
YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE !! cheers
Anyway I need the practice at my non existant computer skills poor old fart.!!
