Check engine warning light does not come on.
I own a 1997 Hijet 993 MPV.The check engine warning light (the yellow one) started to flash on for a second when ever I went fast over a bump in the road and it was like the engine had stopped for a fraction of a second.I noticed this for about a week then one morning the engine warning light did not come on when I turned the key in the ignition and still doesn't.All the other warning lights do come on.The engine turns over fine but not even a hint of firing.Any ideas? Thanks,David.

Hi and welcome I think first port ofr call is to see if there is a fault code you can do this by shorting the two conecters out in the white three point block under the glove box there is a section on fault codes in the manuel see http://www.daihatsuhijet.co.uk/manuals-downloads/ for your model. Any questions just ask.

Re: Check engine warning light does not come on.
The engine light flashes a sequence which you can then match to the book it maybe worth swapping the bulb with one of the others that you know works just in case.
Re: Check engine warning light does not come on.
If the light doesn't come on at all then the diagnostic mode won't work as there is no power to the EFI/ECU system.
You should know what this fault is Rich A man of your Hijet forum time served!
.......Its the dreaded power terminal on the battery in the boot.
There are two little wires that go on to the live terminal on the battery, there is also a big fat one that feeds the starter motor.
Give the two little ones a wiggle with the key on and I bet the light comes back on. If it doesn't give them a pull and one will probably just fall off.
One of those little wires feeds the EFI/ECU system, when it brakes you lose the engine warning light entirely and the van will never start as the ECU has no power.
Bet it fixes it! We've had about 5 people turn up here like this plus it happen to my first Hijet, I drove over a hump back bridge and it cut out - at night too.
If it doesn't I can give you all the info you need to get it working, just post back

I forgot about that I haven't plucked up the courage to even look at the one on ours incase it decides to fall apart.

Success!
It was the wire from the +terminal. Things are a lot tidier down there now. Starts beautifully. Many thanks, David.
