Hijet Radiator Caps
With a growing hijet radiator cap grave yard growing in the top draw of my tool box, it's time to get some new caps. Here is some of my collection of what I would called f***ed caps.
The ones on the right are all original daihatsu caps, while the two on the left are motor factor replacements. I have more crappy ones but I seem to have either binned them or lost them.
I have ordered a few radiator caps over the last week, from various parts catalogues, but the ones that seem to be the best build quality and fitment from my enquiries are these:-
As you can see from the above picture, on a new cap the sprung rubber seal in the middle is the same size as the piston when new, but when they are old and worn, the rubber seems to grow then overlapping the edge of the piston. This will not help the function of the cap at all.
- the seal(s) have a grove depressed into it
- the rubber is perished
- the cap lips that hold it on are going crap
- the central "cooling return valve" in the middle is going weak
- the middle rubber has swollen causing it to drag on the sides.

I take my, er, cap off to you. The FRC 74 is what I have fitted on both my vans.

Re: Hijet Radiator Caps
I found there is a slight weakness with these caps though.
The upper cap seal doesn't spin round from the cap lid, so when you tighten and loosen the cap it twists the seal out of place. I've found putting a bit of Vaseline or bum lube on the rubber goes a long way - see what you've got to hand hey

Re: Hijet Radiator Caps
thread revival alarm !
i have some questions about rad caps.
i want to replace the cap under the seat.
the cap from the front and the one under the seat are they the same?
because i went to the daihatsudealer and they said they are the same
but if i look here you see 2 different caps
https://www.apewebshop.nl/index.php?item=&action=page&group_id=20000338&lang=nl
the daihatsudealer gave me this number 16401-87z04000
they couldnt order it for me but gave me another adress
phoned that and they have to order it from italy cap cost 20 euros and posting about another 20
because it was to much work to get 1 cap from italy...
i am thinking about buying the one (frc 74) HJ bought in the above post
do you still use them higlyjetted?

Re: Hijet Radiator Caps
Yes you can fit an FRC74 to both locations.
This is a controversial subject round here, but if you study the above parts data, you will notice you can fit a 16401-87Z04-000 to both locations, which is a standard cap the same as an FRC74.

Re: Hijet Radiator Caps
thanx for the info
those caps will be easier to get.
some hijet parts are difficult to get around here.
or you have to wait forever to get them.
i once waited 2 months for my speedocable to get here from japan.
after phoning them to ask how long it was goin to take
they said uuuhhhm i dont think it going to get here you should order it somewhere else...
the ones that do sell parts are often at ridiculous prices
some examples
if you would order a exhaust/cat/lamda probe for a 1999 pick-up you would pay €2631.88
https://www.apewebshop.nl/index.php?item=uitlaatdemper-hijet-pick-up-98-00&action=article&group_id=20000228&aid=1549&lang=nl
lambdaprobe € 550.16
https://www.apewebshop.nl/index.php?item=lambdasonde-porter-2-draads&action=article&group_id=20000279&aid=7388&lang=nl
waterpump € 257.89
https://www.apewebshop.nl/index.php?item=waterpomp-porter-1_3&action=article&group_id=20000317&aid=9420&lang=nl
igniter € 601.35

Re: Hijet Radiator Caps
The only parts that are hard to get which from your links is the Igniter unit, there are no copies on the market, but you can take one off a Terios or Grand Move etc

maybe in england.. or the world wide ebay
i am talking about parts availability INSIDE the netherlands.
there are few companies that sell hijet parts and the ones that do are way to expensive and you will have to wait a long time for them.

Re: Hijet Radiator Caps
Bosch universal lambda sensors are available everywhere.
Any motorfactors should supply you with a waterpump.
Not sure where you would get exhausts from, over here there are a few companies that make copy parts.

Re: Hijet Radiator Caps
the parts i mentioned were examples i picked from that site in a few minutes.
it was to show what ridiculous prices they are asking..
offcourse i know you can get a waterpump from different companies for a decent price
that wasnt the best example of parts hard to get but more the crazy prices.
but i didnt know you were going to dissect my post
if parts are easy to get in the netherlands why do they ask such high prices.
and why dont i find those companies..
if you have a list of dutch companies we could set up some sort of sticky/topic for dutch members to find parts easy/cheap.

Re: Hijet Radiator Caps
We have the same crazy prices over here.
If I rang up a Piaggio or Daihatsu dealer, I get mental prices.
Not being dutch, or ever going to even Amsterdam, I can't comment on parts suppliers. But over here we have a type of business we call motorfactors, which supply copy/oem parts for all vehicles. You guys must have the same sort of places. If you don't then you should set up a motorfactors! http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/
They won't sell you a fuel tank, or a set of headlights though
