Wobbly Nuts!


Sounds really safe??

They are wheel nuts with off set washers that allow upto 2mm of variarion in pcd

So we can fit 108mm pcd wheels like ford fitment etc to out 110mm pcd hubs.

I've just been out in the dark and measured up my wheel nuts, they are M12x1.5 thread

And my hub size is 65mm,

I roughtly have 5.5" between the back of the rim and the bolt face

See what I find out, more to come!

So something french seems to be of use for once.
Having 15-25mm offset will make them stick out of the arches a bit more, which is good means they wont scuff the struts or the arches and will allow the 6" or 6.5" J wheels fit so 195 tyres might work.

Had another look at my hijet and it appears the rear doesn't have the hubs/centerbore flange, this means when fitting the new 108mm pcd wheels with the wobbly nuts special car will have to be taken to ensure the wheel is bolted on true/centre.

will make this a sticky. very useful info.

I can build flanges like that with any size, I'm a lathe machinist and there is no problem, I can work up to 450mm in diameter.

In the past we do similar custom spacers to fit particulars alloy rims on a Nissan 3000GT, theoretically we can build adapter to fit on the Hijet any rim with any pattern and hole quantity.

We have in stock some 150mm diameter 6060 Anticorodal alloy, I think it would be perfect, otherwise it is possible to work it out from 7075 (Ergal) or steel if you want a bomb-proof spacer...

I think we can do it about 40€/couple if we produce only a few quantity.
But I don't own the factory

However I can ask my employer if he is interested to do this work.
It was better to do some "kits", if some other was interested...

There is the possibility of doing it at about that price, we only need to know the price of the studs if you want a complete kit.

We can start to work on it when we have at least 5 kit of adapters (20pcs).
In next days I try to find good price studs in my zone.

I have emailed the Canadian chap...... I have a mate who's in the US military based here in the Uk who on occasions doesn't mind me using his US address

Remember those hub adapters will make the wheels stick out by another inch, which may be an MOT failure, may make the steering heavier, and will have an adverse effect on the front suspension geometry.

If the wheels you have already stick out which most do, then they will be quite proud. Cars are not allowed to have wheels protruding from the arches, and it's why some hijets have wheel arch extensions.

I have made some spacers for another car in the past, so have the programs already on the CNC machine at work. So if these aren't available anymore and anyone needs a set I could make some up, would just need dimensions (thickness, O/D, I/D and both PCD's). I could do a set for £50 plus shipping.

It would just be for the adapters, think the price may be slightly high. I will check the price of the material early next week. I could definitely get the cost down if I knew I could sell a few sets.

Has Anyone tried to modify their hubs, to change to a 4x100, or 4x108 pcd? Without the use of an adapter? Modify by machining, i mean. For example, drill another hole pattern at 45° to the existing pattern. Then remove the original studs. ad new studs to the new pattern.

I just thought of it, as i am struggling to fing cheap steel 14inch wheels. But i am sure someone has already thought of this before.

I had the same idea. I saw it on tunning cars (does not seem an easy job...)...let's see what professionals say about!

Something like this was discussed on the Hillman Imp forum a few years ago. Imps have 12" wheels on 4"PCD studs. 4" = 101.6mm. The hubs are "square" so no room to drill an extra set of holes.

I queried if it was possible to knock the studs out of a hub, and bore the splined holes 0.8mm close to the wheel centre, and use bigger splined studs.
"No answer!" was the stern reply.

Eat your hearts out ... Land Rover splined studs, M16, or 9/16"UNF, depending on year, cost a few pence each.

Many Yonks ago, (1980s?) John Brown Wheels would sell you Weller steel slots drilled to whatever PCD you wanted.

Wheels are available new drilled to 110, I posted a link ages ago, but nobody in Hijet world will dip far enough into their pockets, not a big spending community here

I hunted every where for alloys eventually got the from a company called mini lite.

Minilite are very long established company called Tec-Del. All the rally teams used them years ago. The pukka ones were made from magnesium as it is a very light material.
But if the car caught fire the magnesium burns with a very white light. We used to burn magnesium in the Science Lab at school as an experiment. Haven't got a clue what it was all about though.

Minilite's are a beautiful looking wheel and are a timeless design. They look fantastic on virtually any vehicle of any age,
