1.3 efi running on three cylinders
Hello everyone I am new to the site and have recently bought a 1.3 16v EFI /lpg Hijet van, brilliant ! I have a problem it's only running on 3 cylinders, I have changed the coil ,swapped the injector still no luck . There's a good spark and the voltage at the injector plug is the same as the rest of cylinders. There are no nasty valve type noises, I have even cleaned the fuel rail. The engine is the same on gas as it is on petrol. Where do I go next ECU ? Can anyone please help.

Re: 1.3 efi running on three cylinders
Does yours have 4 coil packs (one on each plug) or is it one with the dual coil pack system?
What's it like on water? If you take it for a drive running crap, or leave it to tick over on your drive does it boil over?

still on 3
Its the four coil pack system bought a new coil from Daihatsu £ 140 + vat! It still runs on 3 when you take it for a drive , doesn'nt boil ticking over on the drive .The fan kicks in and out and the temp stays roughly in the middle of the gauge. It starts brilliantly every time which is surprising its a 2003 model if that helps.

Right then, you'll need to help me a little to help you.
Does the cylinder that doesn't fire have a spark?
Does it misfire all the time or just at certain engine speeds?
Have you changed the plugs?

The cylinder has a good spark
It does'nt fire at any speed
I have changed the plug
Starting to pull hair out !

If you put a long screwdriver on the injector can you hear it cracking open and closed like the others?

Re: 1.3 efi running on three cylinders
Hello again; tried the screwdriver on the injector this morning and it sounds the same as all the others. The engine check light is now on ,the diagnostic socket looks to be at the right of the steering wheel does anyone know which pins to connect to read the flash code !

Re: 1.3 efi running on three cylinders
What does the socket look like? I've never found it to this day!! I do the bodge method as described in the link below.
If it looks like this you'll need a scanner, and you have the first OBD2 hijet on the forum!
If it doesn't please tell us where it is?! And read this page:-
http://www.daihatsuhijet.co.uk/hijet-diagnostic-engine-warning-light-flash-codes/
If that doesn't help it'll be a brown and black wire which needs to go to ground.
What I wonder now is, how do you know which cylinder is even miss firing if you have a spark and the injector is clicking? Is it a regular miss fire?

Re: 1.3 efi running on three cylinders
hello again the socket looks just like that; and is just to the right of the steering collum . I beleive it is on obd2 there is a box mounted on the wheel arch which says OBD11-UFIX.I found which cylinder it was by pulling off coil wires and listening to change of engine note, duff cylinder no change confirmed it by compression test, only getting a little compression under load. So conclusion its a valve or valves ;so its head off and off to the reconditioners ! I will post again with results of the valve job. Off to sell one of the children to pay for it !!

Re: 1.3 efi running on three cylinders
Eeek! Not an easy fix for that.
Maybe take the rocker cover off and have a look at the valves top side, maybe its snapped or the rocker arm had failed or something accessable with out removing the engine.
Maybe maybe maybe prey!

Get a spark plug, break the top off, drill it out, weld an airline coupling on, set cyl at tdc, connect airline.
Air out exhaust, ex valve
Air out carb-inlet valve
Air out dipstick-rings/piston
Air out rad-h/gasket
Seemples

Re: 1.3 efi running on three cylinders
If it is a bent valve so long as it isn't kinked or totally knackered get someone with a lathe and gently straighten it out I had to do the valves for the rear cylinder on ours when the cam belt tensioner bearing failed.
Re: 1.3 efi running on three cylinders
Going to investigate further tomorrow ,some good advice thanks everyone I'll let you know what I find !

Re: 1.3 efi running on three cylinders
It's alive ! Major problem now solved , one exhaust valve knackered . I've had the head skimmed and all the vaves refaced and reseated and she's purring like a kitten. The tick over is a bit high ,not sure if its me mucking it up on rebuild or if previous owner tried to compensate for lack of power. So its just that to sort out; and some really worn top door rollers. Thanks to everyone for thier help !
