Sooty's Got A Sore Paw
As it's "Tales Of Woe" time of year,
The wee van has had an intermittent thumping noise coming from what seems like the nsf, buggered if i can see anything amiss but hopefully get some shed time Friday night will shed some light on the matter. Fingers crossed as I need to use it for a wee trip to Galashiels ( found a scrappy with both an XJS and an XKR) on Saturday and a bike jumble on Sunday
And leaving the Jag outside will see if I have fixed the water leak

Re: Sooty's Got A Sore Paw
Sounds a bit like the 32mm Centre Nut coming loose Logi. Each time it has happened to me it is always the nearside one.
It manifests itself as a slight knock first of all when you are cornering. I checked the centre nut for tightness and it SEEMED alright.
It might do it once or twice and dissapear. It is more noticeable usually with a bit of weight on board.
If it is that, then it WILL "eat" the Split Pin and the nut works loose and undoes completely and as was the case with me, is lost on the road.
When it happened to me the first time I was doing 50mph up the Dual carriageway.
The wheel can't come off as the disc and caliper hold it in place. But your steering goes all over the place. I was lucky as I drove it slowly for about 300 metres and was able to abandon it on the forecourt of one of my supplier's.
It ate a couple more split pins and the nut came loose after that. In the end I used a small Allen key to replace the split pin and bent the key with a pair of Mole Grips and it never happened again.
I bought a dozen Allen keys and send them out with a hub assembly to customers.
I am not sure what the torque setting of the nut is supposed to be but I have usually had to adopt the "Gorrilla" setting.

Ah, now that sounds like the symptoms my mate who has a hijet was complaining about, a knocking sound. Will pass on that morsel of info to him.

Wasn't there a recall for hub nuts or something? Might be free if not already done.

I haven't heard of that one BW, but you are usually THE MAN when it comes to Daihatsu Recalls. It is a useful one to know. Thank you.

Well, Woody may be shite at posting pics, but he's spot on with Hijet advice
Both nuts were slack(yeah, long time since anything tightened my nuts.... )
Both now beasted up with my 3/4 drive set, and copious amounts of threadlock

Like it PFM!! Very Logi-ish. You know that he likes to be at the Hub of things. Needs to put the Brake on it at times though ? I will resist any remark about overBearing .

Re: Sooty's Got A Sore Paw
I stand corrected, seems there was indeed a recall for loose nuts.

Re: Sooty's Got A Sore Paw
Much as I love a freebie, I reckon as I had them off recently it may be my fault?
