Re: where is it
Thats 'darn sarf init?'
Going up your way next summer, hope to be in the van if its OK, well thats the plan anyway. Wife was brought up on Islay so going visiting, been a couple of times before, beautiful and relaxing...When the clocks go to Islay time. Usually heading up the other side to Elgin to inlaws but having a change, really want to tour to the top near Betty Hill, heard its beautiful up there from wife.
Was one of the reasons for getting Skylark (the van) but we will see, one issue is so big a distance between places up there in the wilds with nothing inbetween...and such a small fuel tank at 32mpg!

Go to Islay, drive fast on the exceptionally straight roads. (till the first bumpy bit.....) Not an island for speed in a swb van.
Lovely place, as you come into Port Askaig look right into the next bay, was my grandad's house. If possible do the North coast, your wife's not bullshitting you, it's beautiful(if it's not pissing) some bits look a bit like the Pacific Coast Highway (if it's sunny )
The beach at Bettyhill is stunning, but go to Durness and visit Smoo Cave.

Re: where is it
Did plan for a three week tour last year up there but found out most YHA dont like dogs (didnt have a van then). Yes I remember the airport road on Islay! Askaig was much nicer before they developed it but suppose it had to as that road down wasnt the best for all that traffic. Have stayed in the farmhouse next tonPort Ellen lighthouse and in a cottage on Clement Freuds estate. Father in law was a distillery manager on Islay in the 60's when they were getting Port Ellen back on stream as a Distillery.
Waz..Hungary! Thats some trip. Makes a jolly round Scotland seem like a short trip to the shops, way to go! Impressed

Why would you even drive to Beith, let alone pedal?

Re: where is it
You'll notice that we are all totally ignoring the fact you have a working rear wiper /washer.
